National Security Minister says police stepping up crime fighting measures

One week after being named the new Minister of National Security, tonight there is a sense of urgency for John Saldivar to get the ball rolling in tackling the spiralling crime situation in the country. Since general elections on March seventh, the spike in violence has seen over a half a dozen murders, a number of shootings, burglaries and common assaults committed around the country. Today, Minister Saldivar told Love News that effective Tuesday evening the country's crime fighting effort was ratcheted up a notch and he intends to keep the pressure on the criminals so that Belizeans can once again feel safe in their community.

Love News understands that the with regards to the surge in crime on the Placencia Peninsula, the Commissioner of Police is scheduled to be the guest speaker at a special community meeting on Thursday where residents will get a chance to voice their opinions to the police's high command and hear from law enforcement authorities what will be done to assist residents in addressing crime in the tourist destination.
