you might need to contact Maruba Resort as there is where I saw it too.
Hi, trina I would suggest the Orange Walk area. There is a lot to offer there. In particular there is the Lamanai Outpost lodge that offers exactly what you're looking for. You can contact me if you need more info at [email protected]

Viper rum is distilled and bottled by Maruba Resort. They are the only one that sells it. You can contact them via e-mail at [email protected] or call them in Belize 011-501-322-2199. Or easier yet from the states their US office 1-800-MARUBA7 [This message has been edited by bywarren (edited 08-27-2002).]

When I was staying at Maruba Spa in May 2001, they wouldn't sell me any. Maybe they didn't have enough on hand at the time (mmm, maybe I drank all they had!).

I have drank enough of the viper rum to qualify as an authority. At least by Belize standards. Maruba sells it when they have ample supply. It is primarily for the resort's use. There is actually medical advantages to drinking it, according to studies done by the Chinese. They found that the venom of the snake, when consumed in small quantities, helps to prevent strokes and helps with ailments like arthritis. The snake must be a viper and must be put into the bottle while still alive. This ensures that the snake injest the rum into it and then it is slowly released into the rum, sort of in an osmossis way. So, they can only produce the rum based on the amount of snakes they are able to get.
This is "for true, mon". In "backra" language, I learned that word from the book Marty recommended, it means "no shit".
Now how about a country where it is illegal for me to work and I get healthy drinking bottles of rum with snakes in it? What a country!!!

Bywarren, I was told at Maruba that in fact the snake must be alive when put in the bottle. I can truly say that the Rum Punch I had their with Viper Rum was the tastiest thing I have had. My first one was on the house as I registered. Yummm..

Rum punch, ugghhhhhh!!! That is like making a wine spritzer using 1969 Chateau Lafit-Rothchild.
Viper should be drunk straight. Just a shot with the ocassional scale or two.
