Most people know that the US refused to sign the Kyoto protocol, and endured a lot of flak from countries such as the EU. It seems (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/05/27/nbook27.xml) that last year the EU's carbon emissions rose by 1.5%, whereas despite not agreeing to Kyoto the US managed to reduce theirs by 1.6%.

Mind you, it probably says more about the EU than the US.

pedro2 -- I am equally amused. I believe the environment is a very worthy cause and that we should all be good stewards of mother earth. However, Kyoto was a joke from the start.
