Beef seems to be pretty hard to find in Belize. I was told, while staying in the Cayo district, that many places refuse to serve beef, because it's the cattle industry that is responsible for the slash and burn of the rain forest. (Clearing for grazing) So many resorts won't have it on their menu, in an effort to preserve Belize's resources. I didn't miss it at all. There are pork ribs and lots of chicken to add to your sea food choices. Enjoy.

Deb,Deb,Deb,
Plenty of beef out west...Hardly anything is "grain-fed", thus most of the cuts tend to be
on the tough side. "Slash and burn"is mainly a result of subsistence agriculture. I'm sure cattle rearing plays a role but not as much as the individual subsistance growers who clear "milpa" every year. It won't be long and the fires will begin.
In the meantime I'm still waiting for my choice cuts from the Govt. quaranteen guys!!!

Rod,
We stayed at DuPlooy's Jungle Lodge and there was NO BEEF on the menu. When we asked, that's what we were told. All the guests were told the same thing. If it's not true, someone has misled a lot of people.

Deb,
I would think that many resorts shy away from beef because of its toughness and lack of flavor consistency. It is just plain harder to please customers with a piece of range fed beef than with chicken, pork and seafood. Some resorts may have a bias
when the forests that surround them come falling down. One cannot fault their opinions. Ken and Judys place is a paradise!

Rod,
This is true. I can see why some would not want their piece of paradise altered in any way. Yes, Ken and Judy HAVE made DuPlooy's a paradise. I would recommend it to anyone. Never thought about the cattle not "finishing out" in a feed lot like the states. I guess that would change the flavor. I know free range chickens have superior eggs verusus the crappy eggs we get here in the stores. Taste like real eggs and have orange yolks instead of pale sickly yellow. Just the opposite. Thanks for the info.

As long as the Beef is not from Europe! At this time I would be afraid to eat any Beef because of the mad cow outbreak.
My poor parents in Germany can't eat any more Beef or Sausage even other meet is maybe not save there. Can you believe no sausage in Germany???? For Germans that is like having an arm cut off. I am crazy enough and don't need to get mad on top of that.
