I heard somewhere along the grapevine that there is a free dentist coming to San Pedro sometime this month or next. If this is true, I would like to let my staff know so they can make appointments for their kids. Any information about this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Sherry

"The Volunteer Dentist will be treating patients at the San Pedro Smile Center April 16th-19th or 20th, 2007. We have two doctors coming from New York City arriving the 14th to the 21st of April, 2007."

Sorry, it was termed to me as the "free dentist" I wasn't trying to be rude. Thanks for the dates, I will pass this on to my crew.
Happy Easter.

Maybe someone else has more info... "We have two doctors coming from New York City arriving the 14th to the 21st of April, 2007. We are excited because one is a children's specialist-this is important as she will be a great mentor to the government dentist that has recently been placed at the clinic, as this is the priority of the Smile Center. We plan on working the clinic as before (since the government does not provide restorative work-they focus on extraction/sealants and education)."

If your staff's kids attend the local gov/church primary school then Volunteer dentists frequent the school. Also check with Lions Club.

Many fantastic volunteer medical professionals provide their services for free. Of course donations are always welcomed and usually a donation is considered to be between $5 and $10 Belize if the patients can afford it. Most groups bring down all of the necessary equipment for basic care. Don't expect cosmetic work etc.

If you have a child in Belize in dire need of medical assistance you can contact Friends of Pediatrics at <[email protected]> This group manages to bring down specialists for seminars and volunteer work. It also helps organize care for kids with cancer, kidney and liver problems, cosmetic surgery for harelips and therapy for special needs patients. The list goes on and on.

And Friends of Pediatrics is a wonderful charity to donate to if you are so inclined.

There is now a government dentist at the Poly Clinic full time. He is limited in the scope of what he can do (the government limits him) but he does basis dental care.

Friends of Pediatrics works in conjuction with International Hospital for Children to bring down the medical specialists or send the children who need specialized surgery to the states.

I do the coordinating for the children on the island. Two children were seen last week, with one having surgery for a cleft palate.
