Not just non-political, but going way beyond America. This was an attack on the entire free world.

Is there a person on this earth that won't remember where they were doing that day? That and the day JFK was killed.[Linked Image]

We were in Yosemite getting ready to leave the B&B we were staying in and catch a flight out of San Fran. We had friends form Norway with us. We went into the office to say our goodbyes. We were all in a happy mood. They had the TV on and said that obviously we hadn't been watching TV as we packed. We all looked at the TV and to a person thought "What movie is that?".

All across the desert to Dallas every where we stayed in each restaurant everybody was talking in hushed voices.

I too remember. And while we remember and mourn those who died September 11, 2001, it would do us well to remember also all the innocent who have died since that day as a direct or indirect consequence of the events of September 11, 2002 and the responses to those events. I believe the heavens still weep.

I remember because it was the same year Iris hit southern Belize.

Good point Leah-Ann. I grew up in Oklahoma City, was living in Perry, OK at the time of the OKC federal building bombing, lost a former co-worker in that attack. Heart still heavy for the families and the incredible pain we all felt and still feel.

Nine times out of ten when people ask me where I'm from and I say Oklahoma City they ask how we are doing since that terrible day. Touching that people remember and care. So yes, never forgetting ALL innocents lost is very important.

I was in the kitchen of my house in Oxford, England, getting ready to move out a few days later into a smaller house preparatory to coming out to Belize. I had the kitchen TV on while I did things, and whatever was on was interrupted with footage of the immediate aftermath of the first impact. I stopped whatever I was doing (I hadn't been watching the TV) so was watching when the second plane struck. Extraordinary to think that I watched it as it happened. It didn't seem real, but after the first impact I phoned a friend to get him to watch. "What channel" he asked? "All of them" I replied, because it really was astonishing news for us in Britain and all programmes had been stopped. We're well used to terrorism, but not on that scale. My friend immediately asked "what tower" and I had no idea. Turned out a group of close colleagues from his office were high up in one of the towers at a conference - he would have been there but for some trivial reason. They all died. My brother also lost maybe 10 people he regularly worked with, all together at another meeting. Wrong place, wrong time.

In many ways the most remarkable aspect was that so few people died. This was in the middle of the working day in an enormous city, with the two largest buildings destroyed. 3000 is dreadful, but how many might it have been if it hadn't been handled so well?
