And while the government has concluded another bold, controversial acquisition of a private company - the going was made a little easier today because of the fact that the opposition was not there to heckle them.

The PUP boycotted both the House and Senate meetings and issued a release today explaining that they did so because of the late notice that was given to the Opposition by the Speaker's Office. The statement adds that the announcement of a house meeting was issued to the media before any notification to the Leader of the Opposition and other opposition members of the House of Representatives and the Senate.

The opposition release also laments that the government would call a Special House sitting with minimum notice to now pass the controversial elimination of jury trials, and do so just a few weeks after tabling this proposal without allowing adequate time for consultation.

And while the opposition wasn't there, it doesn't mean that the opposition bench was empty. Orange Walk East area representative Marcel Cardona made his first appearance in the House of Representatives since his explosive, historic condemnation of the budget. He appeared in his new seat on the opposition back bench - but didn't seem the worse for it. He was typically frisky - though in the Assembly offices for most of the session - we are told trying to access the internet.

In the end, he did not address the house.
