More females take exam and results are steady

Juan Vargas

Also released today were the results of the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE). One hundred and twenty sixth form students signed up to sit subjects. Fifty-one percent of them were female and forty one percent were male. Vargas, who is also the Local Registrar for the Examination, told News Five that CAPE's candidate entries decreased by ten point four percent compared to last year and the Unit entries increased by six point three percentage points.

Juan Vargas, Local Registrar, CSEC/CAPE

"We had an increase in the number of unit entries. We had an increase of six point three percent, but the candidate entries decreased by ten percent. We noted that several of the units of CAPE maintained the acceptable levels of grade one to five. As a matter of fact, we had several subjects that were within the one hundred percent-one to five grade. For example subjects such as Applied Mathematics, Unit One; Communication Studies, Unit Two; Economics, Unit Two; Environmental Science, Unit One; History, Unit Two; Information Technology, Unit One; and Lit and English, Unit Two. Those remain within the one hundred percent acceptable range. And then we had some other subjects that increased in terms of attaining that acceptance grades from one to five. So CAPE indeed maintained its standard and if we look at the overall grade for CAPE, you will note that for last year-if we compare the overall performance of acceptable grades one to five for CAPE-we will note that for the last year we had ninety-five point two percent and this year we have ninety-four point seven, which can be round off to ninety-five percent. So CAPE maintained its satisfactory grade of one to five."

If 51% were female and 41% were male, which gender made up the other 8% that took the CAPE?
