MY FAMILY AND I ARE COMING TO CC TO STAY FOR ABOUT 8 NIGHTS AND WONDERING IF ANYBODY CAN TELL ME A GOOD PLACE TO STAY. THERE WILL BE 4 ADULTS AND NO CHILDREN.ALSO I HAVE BEEN READING AT HOW BAD THE WATER TAXI HAS GOT, IS IT STILL THAT BAD AS FAR AS HAVING TO WAIT & TAKING FOR EVER TO GET TO THE ISLAND? SHOULD WE TAKE A PLAN INSTEAD, AND IF SO WHICH COMPANY DO YOU RECOMMEND? THANKS FOR THE HELP.
Take the plane. Just after you pass through customs make a left and buy a ticket to the island on tropic air.
you will be much happier and considering the cost of cab ride from the airport to Belize city the price isn't that different.
Look around at
http://cayecaulker.org/lodging/tons of nice places to stay.
What is your price range?
do you know how much a taxi cab far is from the airport
We would like to stay for under 100per night
If you fly from the International Airport as Elbert suggests there'll be no need for a taxi. At the Caye Caulker end there aren't any taxis, just bicycle carts.
You could fly from the Municipal Airstrip for around half the fare charged from the International. I believe the taxi to get there is somewhere above US$20, but no doubt someone will correct me on that. Bear in mind the time and effort involved, and the uncertainty of getting on any particular flight. If you fly Tropic from the International and book it beforehand via their website they will get you to CC regardless of international flight delays. That is what I'd do.
I was there last week and had no problem with the Water Taxi. We stayed with another couple at Cayereef it's very nice. Enjoy wish I was there.
A cab from the airport to the water taxi is about $25 USD, usually for a car load. For 1 or 2 passengers flying over to Caye Caulker it is not much higher than the water taxi route. For 4 people the plane ride gets expensive.
Peter, you haven't been to CC in a long while. They started using golf cart taxi's at least 8 years ago. That's when I started coming to CC. That cab is $5 to just about anywhere on CC.
Actually I was there last week. But you're right - I overlooked the golf cart taxis, mainly because I haven't seen many of them around.
High season is over, so won't the water taxis be less busy now?
What about Chateau Giselle, which is a 3 bedroom/2 bathroom house right on Front Street across from the Police Station (very entertaining)
Take a taxi to the city and take the boat to the caye....they run on a schedule and it is part of the experience of going to laid back caye caulker....take the plane back to the airport...allows you to spend as much time as possible on the caye.....crying...because you are leaving...but more time there.....
Could you please tell me how long it took you to get to CC on the water taxi and how much the tickets were person. Thanks for your help. Just trying to figure out which route to take to get to Caulker
45 minutes from Belize City to Caye Caulker, and the ticket price round trip is $17.50 U.S.

CostsUS$20.Is now run by outsiders and many folks are mad when they get here in a late overcrowded boat esp at end of day runs.
Take the plane one way or the other. It flys about 150 ft off the water. you can often see bigger fish.Memorable experience.
