we would like to also build two small cabanas on the lot that we could rent to tourists. start a little business and make a few extra dollars.
does anyone know the process, cost for fees, time involved to get a license etc.
we would be open to hiring a local gal for room cleaning if that would help us get a business license.

If you are going to manage it yourself you need to get work permits. Your other option is to turn the management over to a local management company for a percentage.

Check with the BTB for regulations on tourist rentals.
The business will need a hotel license, issued by BTB. Not expensive.
You will have to meet certain minimum standards and there is a booklet that outlines these, also available from BTB.
As noted by Nicolle, if you work you need a work permit or residency.
Employees must be legally allowed to work, so check their documents before hiring. Also strongly recommend getting a police report on employes who go into guests rooms.
You will need to register your business for Taxes as well. business tax and hotel tax.
