Necessary for BEL to replace a pole on the transmission system and conduct line clearing in the Cayo District.

Affected areas: Camalote, Teakettle, Unitedville, Arizona, Ontario, Buena Vista and Blackman Eddy. BEL apologizes for the inconvenience caused, but this planned outage is necessary for the Company to replace equipment on distribution system between Camalote and Blackman Eddy.

Extended Power Interruption in Belmopan caused by Difficulties Experienced during Upgrades to Power Distribution System

Customers of Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) in the City of Belmopan and surrounding areas experienced an extended power interruption on Sunday, November 16 due to extended delays experienced during planned works in the area.

A power interruption was originally scheduled for 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon to facilitate works to upgrade the power distribution system in Belmopan City and surrounding communities. These works included replacement of utility poles and equipment, adjusting of high voltage lines, installation of lightning arresters and maintenance works at the Belmopan Substation.

During the process of works, BEL crews faced several difficulties, which impeded completion of the scheduled upgrade works. In particular, additional deteriorated equipment was identified, apart from those scheduled for replacement. As a result, the duration of the works extended past the slated six hour period.

BEL recognizes that customers were severely impacted by this unforeseen delay in the supply of electricity and extends sincere apologies to customers in Belmopan, Roaring Creek, Camalote, Cotton Tree, Saint Matthews, La Democracia, Franks Eddy, Valley of Peace and Armenia, who were without power supply for periods ranging from over eight hours to over twelve hours.

BEL remains committed to ensuring the provision of reliable electricity; and efforts in this regard sometimes present challenges, which our employees work towards overcoming with customers' best interest in mind. Unfortunately, yesterday's extended planned interruption caused additional inconvenience to customers. However, the additional works conducted created an opportunity for the Company to prevent the possibility of future unplanned power interruptions had the additional deteriorated equipment not been replaced.

The Company is grateful for the patience of our customers who have also expressed appreciation for the commitment of our employees.
