The 8th annual Zone 4 Benque Viejo Neighborhood Watch Group Summer Camp was held at Sams' Community Park this past week starting Monday 17th of August and ending Friday 21nd . The camp was available to all area children and was held all week from 8:30 am to noon daily.

The children received free of charge instruction and participation in various arts and crafts. The children also enjoyed football, volleyball as well as use of playground equipment including swings and slides and use of the club-house.

The annual event was hosted and organized by Neighborhood Watch Captain Sam Bruce with help from volunteers, sponsors, and with the cooperation of the Benque Police Department. Guest speakers included an opening address by Deputy O/C Insp. Stanley Bowden, Cpl. McNeil on domestic violence issues, Armando Chulin on patriotism and a statement in the closing ceremony by Cpl. Joshua McKoy, which is also Belize's first recipient of "GREAT" International Training program Certification.

With an initial registration limit of 50, the ranks swelled daily until an aggregate total of more than 500 willing participates attended, with great strain on resources as all was donated by the organizer, Mr. Bruce, and community businesses based on 250 total attendances.

Refreshments were provide to all including juice, snacks, chips and water as well as a graduation day lunch handed out by SC Philip Swaso and Sgt. Amilcar Milian. Prizes were awarded for perfect attendance and for correct answers to questions pertaining to the guest speaker's statements.

Graduation Day included an educational speech on the Belize maps & patriotism by Armando Chulin, a drill presentation by the Youth Cadets and certificates of attendance to all participants, children, police, youth cadets and parents as well as others in attendance. The Mistress of Ceremonies was Mrs. Isle Tesucum who thanked all for their efforts with a special thanks the event's organizer Captain Sam Bruce and all the businesses that contributed to make the event possible.
