I am interested in talking to someone who has been to the progresso area lately... I lived there for 6 months in 1980 and very curious about the development or lack of it in that area??
Also curious about the roads from Orange Walk to Progresso?
I was last in that area about a year ago and also very briefly this summer. I don't know what it was like in 1980, but there hasn't been a lot of development there in recent years. There are Mennonite farms and up north of there, at Copper Bank near Cerros, some yahoo from the U.S. has been trying to sell lots on the bay. From Orange Walk Town, the roads to Progresso and also to Chunox and Sarteneja are pretty good gravel roads. There is bus service from Orange Walk. Also, there is now a hand-crank car ferry across the New River from near Corozal Town, which saves a lot of travel time if you are coming from the north.

Thank you very much for the information... actually sounds like all good changes! I was afraid they had filled it up with condos or something. The road was all dirt when I was there so the gravel is a good change. IT was VERY easy to get stuck in the old days! I loved the hand cranked ferry, so another one is good! I am sorry to hear they want to sell off small lots... even though I would love to spend some time in Belize again I don't want it ruined with comercialism. Thank you again for your information. Do you know if there are still citrus fruit farm at the east end of progresso? I stayed out there for a few months and helped bring in the orange crop. The best tangelos I have ever tasted! Also the avacados were wonderful too! Thanks again!
