DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL AVIATION HOSTS AVIATION PROCESS AUDIT TRAINING

An Aviation Processes Audit Training is underway at the Coastal Zone Management Training Room in Belize City. The one week training is being hosted by the Department of Civil Aviation in collaboration with Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation and Culture. Operations Officer at the Department of Civil Aviation Nigel Carter tells us more.

Nigel Carter; Operations Officer, Department of Civil Aviation

"Participants will learn the basic concepts of quality and quality audit, the planning of audits, the execution of audits and reports and follow up activities. The participants are members of the aviation industry in particular the airlines; Maya, Tropic and others. They are people that are involved in the quality audits for the company. Basically what they look at is the service they are providing to customers. We are talking number one from a safe flight to how the flight is conducted, to the way passengers are briefed to the cleanliness of the aircrafts. We are not specifically going into these issues but the basic concept of quality is being thought to these people so that they can go out and put this knowledge towards their processes out there."

The training was preceded by a one day seminar on flight safety on November 18 and according to Carter the department is equipping members of the aviation industry with the knowledge, tools and practices that will let them prepare execute, report and do the follow up to audits from service operators.

"The issues talked about were safety management systems, bird hazards among others. Aviation is constantly evolving we are moving into instead of just providing a service to customers we are moving into providing a high quality service and for this we saw the need for  audit training."

Over 10 representatives from different local airlines are attending the training sessions.
