"As the hurricane season fast approaches this project is vital to preparing low lying communities for the season ahead. The monies will be used to assist in the repair of community shelters in the communities of Flowers Bank. Lemonal and Rancho Dolores and to provide disaster communication equipment to the residents of May Pen. This signing not only represents a great project that meets an important need, it represents cooperation. I am always amazed at how deep the cooperation between the United States and Belize is and this project is just another example."

Signing on behalf of the Belize Red Cross was President Tracy Panton.

So we want to thank you very much, know that it will be put to good use. The communities certainly are most grateful and we look forward to doing many more projects particularly in the area of disaster preparedness for Belize, so thank you very much."

The signing was held at the U-S Embassy in Belmopan.
