Nation of Islam Leader Minister Louis Farrakhan will make his third visit to Belize in December. He is on a five nation Caribbean Tour and will arrive in Belize on December 6th for a four day visit.

He will have a number of appearances and addresses - starting with a youth rally at Bird's Isle. He will also speak to the entire prison population at Kolbe Central Prison. And, as he did in his prior visits in 1975 and 1986, he will address the general public at Bird's Isle in a night-time gathering.

And while that is the public part of the visit, Farrakhan will also meet with the Governor General, the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition and be hosted at an official welcoming reception sponsored by Foreign Minister Wilfred Elrington.

His Caribbean Tour started last week in Grenada and moves next to Barbados, then Dominica, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Belize and ends in the Bahamas.

Farrakhan has Caribbean roots: his father is from Jamaica and his mother is from St. Kitts.

Wow! This is the same radical associate of Malcom X from the 1960's. I pretty sure he was with the Black Panthers and is from New York's Harlem during the early days of Black Power! Most people believe his group was involved in the assassination of Malcolm X during a power struggle over who was to lead the violent Black Power coalition.
Thank God Martin Luther King and peaceful change came out on top.
This guy is a Newyorker, Farrakhan is not his real name, he's antisemitic and trouble follows him like a bad smell!
WTF does he want in Belize!
A Muslim extreemest and proponent of violent reveloution is having a Youth Rally in Belize, OMG
Take a min. and listen to just the first few sentences from the man.

The guy is...ummmm...controversial to be sure.

Does anyone know his other stops in Belize? I would be really interested in going to hear him speak...

I think I'm old and most people I spoke with about how shocked I was that he is allowed to come into Belize and have a public meeting with our young people, didn't really know who he was.

I'm about as shocked as some would be if you said Adolf Hilter was coming to town with a box of brown shirts for our children to wear and march around a bit.
Is he a friend of Foreign Minister Wilfred Elrington?
REMEMBER A BIG BREWHAHA ABOUT HIM. Didn't he have to go into hiding for some time?

Youths: Who Is Farrakhan?

Earlier this week, official details of the visit of Minister Louis Farrakhan were released. Those of us older born before 1980 should remember his last visit in 1986.

But there's a whole generation of adults born after 1986 who are saying, "Farrakhan - who?"

And it's understandable, because in the modern "pop-life" where telephones and television dominate the national consciousness, Farrakhan is not exactly at the top of the charts, or "trending" on Google.

But in 1986, before a zillion channels of cable, facebook and text messages, Farrakhan's visit was a major event. With some YouTube video of that visit recently posted on the internet, we wondered about the comparisons between then and now. Daniel Ortiz reports:..

Daniel Ortiz reporting
When Pastor Luis Farrakhan came to Belize in 1986 - this video captured by the Nation of Islam showed Belize City as it was then.

Some things have changed in the 26 years, while many have remained the same.

This was the enthusiastic crowd that gathered at bird's isle in 1986 to hear an address by one of the most electrifying black leaders in the world.

And Farrakhan delivered.

For many the memory of that event is still fresh - but for a whole generation of teens, twenty somethings who weren't born at that time - do they even know who Farrakhan is? We asked a few of them today:..

Daniel Ortiz
"There is a gentlemen; well-known individual from the nation of Islam Mr. Farrakhan who is to make a visit to Belize. Do you know who this gentleman is?"

Taylor Usher - Student
"Actually no. I don't have any clue who you are talking about."

Daniel Ortiz
"He is a very big personality. Do you know anything about Islam and Muslims?"

Taylor Usher - Student
"Not exactly, I am not too familiar with that culture."

Daniel Ortiz
"He will be making a visit very soon and he is supposed to be holding a public forum at the Bird's Isle. Is this something you would be interested in attending?"

Taylor Usher - Student
"I guess because I have no idea what it is. I don't like being ignorant to different subjects and different topics. I am open-minded to whatever it is to at least learn more about it."

Daniel Ortiz
"There is a gentleman well-known in the nation of Islam in the US. He is supposed to make a trip to Belize Mr. Luis Farrakhan. Had you even heard the name? Do you know this individual?"

Trevion Lord - Student
"Not from what I can remember."

Daniel Ortiz
"Sir, he speaks about black empowerment and freeing yourself from mental slavery and rising above poverty and stuff like that. He is a very religious individual. Is this something you would be interested in, mind you he is a gentleman who is a big follower and leader in the Islamic religion. Is this something that you would be interested in?"

Trevion Lord - Student
"It seems like something good but I don't know exactly what he is bringing, so I can't just say off hand I am interested in that because you know."

Daniel Ortiz
"He is supposed to be holding a public forum when he makes his appearance here in Belize. Is this something that you would attend to find out at least to see what it is?"

Trevion Lord - Student
"Probably, just to see what it is and then make my decision whether I should stay or not depending what the topic is about."

Edward Burns - Student
"Yes actually I do know about the gentleman. I show quite a few of his documentaries at my work place at KREM Television."

Daniel Ortiz
"What do you know of this gentleman?"

Edward Burns - Student
"Minister Luis Farrakhan is a Muslim spokesman. He speaks about black people empowerment, problems that black people are faced with in life, in reality right now. He also speaks on children abuse, on female abuse and different things that touch on black people."

Daniel Ortiz
"You seemed to be very knowledgeable and very well educated about Mr. Farrakhan. Sir, has any one of his philosophies impacted you?"

Edward Burns - Student
"To be quite honest I really pay attention to quite a few of his documentaries that we play and sometimes when you watch the documentaries he touch on certain points that make you question yourself on where the dude is really coming from basically - the perspective where he is trying to put things and the perspective of where we as humans put it right now."

Daniel Ortiz
"We know that he is going to have a public forum at the Bird's Isle when he makes his visit. Since you know so much of this gentleman and his ideas have impacted you - would you attend this public forum?"

Edward Burns - Student
"I most definitely will be there."

Daniel Ortiz
"Do you know this gentleman?"

Francis Babet - Student
"Not at all."

Daniel Ortiz
"Sir, he speaks about black empowerment and to rise above your roots and become as educated as you possibly can. You are an educated gentleman going to school - may have some of the same philosophies as he. Do you know anything of which I speak of?"

Francis Babet - Student
"It's a relevant topic about black empowerment in our society."

Daniel Ortiz
"Do you know anything about the gentleman?"

Shanice Lord
"I am not sure. The name doesn't ring a bell in my head at all. It's good that there is someone promoting black people empowering themselves instead of bringing ourselves down because lately there is a lot of negativity with us, with gang violence, drugs etc. so it's good that someone is promoting black people empowerment."

Daniel Ortiz
"A part of his visit is to hold a public forum at the Bird's Isle. You seem to be receptive of some of his ideas. Would you attend just to find out what he is about?"

Shanice Lord
"Yes I am willing to attend."

Daniel Ortiz
"Do you know anything of this individual?"

Frank Spooner - Student
"I know he is from Islam, I can't remember what he does there but I know he is like some kind of an inspirational speaker or something."

Farrakhan arrives in Belize on December 6th for a 4 day tour. He will deliver a number of public addresses including a final address to a general audience, again at Bird's Isle.

He is presently on a Caribbean tour.

I think the younger people of today can recognize a racist hate group as bad no matter what race.Belize is a beautiful rainbow nation a good example of unity in a multi-cultural mix and the coming-together of people of many different nations.
The theme of Belize is tolerance and Love, Farrakhan spreads hate.

He was invited by the Muslim Community in Belize. I think it'll be fine, especially if he instills pride in the people who need some the most. You know Malcolm X's eldest daughter Attallah Shabazz was made a ambassador at large for Belize, maybe about 5 or so yrs ago?

Why Farrakhan Still Matters

Last week, we told you about the visit of Nation of Islam Leader Minister Louis Farrakhan who arrives in Belize on Thursday December sixth for a 4 day tour.

We've been only able to give you a broad outline of his schedule while here in Belize, today, the main organizer of the event, Nuri Muhammad, spoke to us on the details.

Farrakhan arrives on Thursday afternoon at 2:00 - after which he will have a press conference, and then go to meet Prime Minister Dean Barrow at his Belize City Office. That night, Foreign Minister Wilfred Elrington will host him at a formal reception.

On Saturday, he begins to make his public appearances starting on the KREM WUB morning talk show followed by a number of addresses. Muhammed explained:

Nuri Muhammed - Farrakhan Trip Organizer
"Then he moves later on that day to the mosque, the Muslim place of prayer on Central American Boulevard where he will address the Muslim community. Later that afternoon at about 2pm he will be at the King's Room at the Princess Hotel where there is an expected large crowd of youth organized by the Department of Youth Services."

"The following morning he will go to central prison in Hattieville manage by the Kolbe Foundation where he will speak to the entire inmate population and then his last talk that same Saturday night will be his return to Bird's Isle - the third time that he is going to Bird's Isle which he is looking forward to that because he has fun memories of his first time at Bird's Isle 37 years ago."

"When this tour came up that he was travelling in the region anyway - he ensured that Belize would have been a part of his itinerary."

And while the Bird's Isle Address has historic value - as we also showed you last week, there is a whole generation of young adults who have no idea who Minister Farrakhan is.

Muhammad also spoke to us on the importance of his visit in that context:

Nuri Muhammed - Farrakhan Trip Organizer
"It would be because the message of Minister Farrakhan I think is appropriate for this time on a number of levels. One is that we are a society at this time perhaps you could say in crisis for a number of reasons. I think the sense of hope and the sense of optimism has been dulled by circumstances facing us from the top to the bottom. We are challenge, so if we can bring in a voice that is inspirational, not a voice to cover the problem, not a voice even to blame but Minister Farrakhan's unique message is that while he explains environmentally the factors causing the problems he does not shy away from the need to take personal responsibility. I think while he will be explaining the social and economic issues affecting us in Belize and in this region he certainly will not get away from the fact that the only way to change it is for you to dig within yourself and to pull up your own sense of purpose."

"I think he also speaks a message of unity. Jules, I am sure you from your perspective see how much divisiveness and the tactics of divisiveness that is used in our society."

Farrakhan is on a six-nation Caribbean Tour and he will come to Belize from the Bahamas.

Farrakhan Visit Cancelled

Preparations were in high gear for tomorrow afternoon's arrival of Minister Louis Farrakhan, but the visit has been cancelled. The announcement came out this morning that Farrakhan - who is 79 - has fallen ill in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands.

That was the fifth stop on his 7 nation Caribbean tour - and he has had to cancel visits to Bahamas and Belize.

A press release form the local organizer says that Farrakhan is suffering from exhaustion and dehydration and did not speak in St. Croix.

Doctors have strongly recommended immediate rest.

No plans have been announced for a make-up visit by the Leader of the Nation of Islam

Some of these people on this topic remind me of the pharisees and scribes that the Bible talks about. They went to every place that they heard Jesus would speak and they spread propaganda and negative rumors before Jesus arrived and after he left. Jesus was hated by many in those days and only today, 2000 years later, is he loved by many. Let me address the person who said that he's happy that Martin Luther king came out on top. Mr. King was a peaceful man and loved by many; but even with all his peace, the United states Government still publicly assassinated him. If Min Farrakhan does make it to Belize, go and listen and make up your own mind. That's what free men and women do.
