Two weeks ago, the Salvation Army launched its annual Red Kettle appeal in front of the First Caribbean Bank on Albert Street. The funds raised from those tiny kettles trickle in to the mighty effort of feeding hundreds of homeless persons, children and the elderly.

And while having a belly full is one thing, Christmas is about the kids, and it should be more so about the less fortunate ones. That's why today the Salvation Army an d Bravo Motors kicked off its toy drive.

They are asking the public for assistance in helping them raise 2 thousand five hundred toys for children.

Major Brenda Greenidge-Regional Commander, Salvation Army Belize
"The Salvation Army would cater for about 800 families, preparing food parcels and of course children are important in the family, so we felt that for a child food is not all, a toy will really mean much to them so hence this toy drive which is spare headed by Bravo Motors. They have dropped off their barrels at various locations and we are asking the public to assist us in raising, as a matter of fact, 2,500 toys, because this year we have included an addition four schools that we reach out too and make sure that those children get a toy."

"It would run up to the 24th of December there about yes, because even after the holiday season there are still people who are coming asking for stuff so if it runs up to that time, we will still be able to meet those late needs."

Major Henry King - Regional Secretary
"The areas where we have barrels are at A&R, Brodies, Save-U, Hofius, Mirab, Brovo Motors Office and at Mikado."

Again, the locations of the Barrels are at A&R on the northern highway, Brodies downtown and Brodies on the northern highway, Save-U supermarket, Mirab, Brovo Motor's Office, Mikado Outlet at the downtown Plaza and Hofius. The drive runs until December 24th.
