Hi all:
We are heading for Ambergris Caye next week and would prefer to take one of the ferries from Belize City. I've seen photos of the 'ferries' and wonder if there is room for luggage.

Also, what's the best way to get to the ferries from the airport?

Thanks very much!

We took the water taxi, loved the ride and thought it was a great start to our trip. Take a taxi from the airport - it cost us $15 or $20 US for the cab, can't remember. There is plenty of room for luggage - they stick it in a storage place under the seating in the middle of the boat and also at the front of the boat. I was amazed at how much they could get in there! If you arrive before time for the water taxi to leave it gives you some time to make your first purchase of plantain chips or pumpkin seeds, from the kids hanging out at the water taxi station. They go great with your first Belikin wink
As you saw from the photos, the water taxis aren't really ferries in the accepted sense of the word -- just open boats with a couple of outboards.

They do fit an amazing amount of luggage in these boats, and despite the anarchic appearance of things at the Marine Terminal, people and luggage do get on and off at the right places.

If you have some extra time, walk a block or so (in the opposite direction from the Swing Bridge) to the Image Factory, one of the top galleries for art, and crafts, in the region.

A taxi from the international airport to the Marine Terminal is US$20.
