Hey everyone. I'm writing an article about visiting Belize in June, July, August. I have a few ideas about why I like traveling that time of year, but am wondering what y'all think...? Any events or festivals during those months? Activities that are better that time of year? Any warnings for people traveling that time? Special low season discounts?
Please respond on this thread or email me directly with ideas: jberman AT gmail DOT com
and THANK you!
I have only been in June. We stayed on A.C. and did some day trips to the mainland as well as snorkeling trips. We truly enjoy the people and culture of Belize. The feeling of community that is exuded through their festivals and outdoor celebrations as well as markets/vendors. There always seems to be something going on.
I have had the opportunity to meet a lot of ex-pats that live on the island as well as numerous natural born citizens. The love of their country and excitement for their country along with their welcoming spirit endears the people of Belize to the outside world (in my opinion).
As I understand it, this time of year does not draw quite as many visitors, which I find to be a shame. While I have not been caught in severe rains, I have been in some moderate rain, witnessed road wash-outs and yet, the people of S.P. pull together and continue on with their intended activities to the extent possible. It is amazing to witness.
The festival that has been happening during my stays has been the San Pedro Lobster Festival. This festival takes place over several days, celebrates the history of the lobstering industry, and continues the feeling of community. There are many dinners, dances, B-B-Qs and activities to take part in, including the selection of the Lobster King and Lobster Queen. What a blast.
