Marion Ali reporting
Despite torrential rains on Sunday, it did not stop celebration in memory of the People's United Party's recently departed, George Price. Having passed away on September nineteenth of 2011, this past Sunday would have marked his ninety-third birthday. His party colleagues and successors celebrated his memory with a church service at the Holy Redeemer Cathedral, after which they gathered at the premises of PUP stalwart, Luke Espat, for dinner, drinks and cake. A larger than life bust of the National Hero stood fittingly at the entrance, just as the person it represents would have done in real life to welcome his guests. The crowd included many of the PUP's standard bearers and Councilor candidates. But the occasion was much more than just merry-making. It was also to etch George Price's name on Belize's history pages forever, and the host, Luke Espat, had a special request - one that the PUP leader, Francis Fonseca, said he will ensure if his party is elected as the new government.

Luke Espat - Host
"I hope that our members of parliament, our party leader especially use this day to ask parliament for a national public holiday, January 15.

Francis Fonseca - PUP Leader
"We will not ask parliament to do that, we will do it when we form the next Government."

George Price was born on January fifteenth, 1919 at his family home on Pickstock Street in Belize City. He was one of the founders of the People's United Party and died with the title of "National Hero" and also referred to as the Father of the Nation.
