Kodak is now selling (at Walmart in the US) a disposable camera rated down to 50'. We are going to try one when we come down around the 1st of May. Has anyone else used this particular camera?
it better have a flash...........
We have used the new 50 ft ones - and they take really good photos - of course we weren't 50 ft down though - they are great for snorkeling - we used these in the Grenadines and St. Lucia last year - great photos! They are meant for clear water and snorkeling. They captured the squid, octopus, and many other friends we encountered just off of Palm Island. Enjoy!
I just purchased 2 of these cameras for my upcoming trip to AC. That way, hubby and I can take pictures of each other petting sharks and rays!!
My question is how do you pack these cameras for travelling. If packed in your luggage, do the airport x-rays zap the film? Or do you just carry them in your camera bag and hand them off in going through security?
To NancyO....I stayed at Palm Island last year also (loved it). How does that compare to AC?
Thanks,
Snoopycat
I have been told the screening machines for checked luggage will ruin film. I would carry on your cameras. The x-ray machines for carry on won't damage certain speeds, but I would request a visual inspection for all film just to be on the safe side.
I think you're right, KW...the cameras may have to be a carry-on. I might buy one of those film-shield bags just to be sure...
Thanks,
Snoopycat
Do not put disposable cameras or any kind of film in your checked baggage. You can put it through the x-ray with your carry ons (that won't hurt it). All of our underwater pictures from Hawaii had a big old stripe down the middle - I've been told that comes from the high power equipment used to screen checked baggage. If you feel more comfortable, you can put all your film in a ziplock bag and hand it to the screener. Don't get a special film bag, no need.

I had a 110 but took it to deep and broke it. This
would be great for shark/ray alley.. HOW MUCH does
it cost????

not a tip appropriate for disposables, but I carry lead lined canisters that hold 4 rolls of film each. Take up less room the the boxes, not too expensive and they stop ALL kinds of nasty things. When ya get to AC, toss them in the frig, if ya have one, and film stays cool. Lead lined pouches are cheap too, I just prefer the canister
It's fun too to watch the NTSA guys at the screens trying to figure out what the hell those 5"x2.5" solid objects are.
Just got one today at Sav On for $10
27 pics.
I got mine at Sam's Club. Two for $17. Also 27 pics each. Sounds like I got a good deal
you can purchase a waterproof camera around a $100, but the prices you paid for those disposables are good. I ran out of memory on my digital up north, and had somebody purchase me one in SP and bring it up. No flash and it cost $15.
Pictures, we want pictures, we want lots and lots of pictures
jUST GOT BACK FROM WMART..GOT ONE FOR $8.84
I just looked over the camera, it says good to 50' but it doesn't have a flash. Just a heads up.
Yep, That's the camera and that's what I paid at Walmart.
Mike G -
Does it have a flash or not? I'm confused.
REPLY..............NO FLASH
I like the fuji underwater disposable. Got some pretty good pix, I'll post them when they're scanned and enhanced. As far as the airport, they probably won't hand inspect disposables. They'll want to xray them. I just gave up and let them do it, my 20 rolls of slide film were more important. I wouldn't use the lead bags, they're going to make you open them up. Take your 35 mm film in a clear gallon ziplock, OUT of the plastic cans. Tell them it is 800 speed, they won't know the difference. that seems to be the threshold the TSA kiddies are trained to accept. We had 12 different flights to get to AC and back, so I went through my share of airport security. A couple times i was told it was "too much trouble" to hand inspect, but they did it anyway when I politely insisted.
more important than anything with photos, ESPECIALLY underwater, is the quality of the processing. You spent a fortune on the trip, don't trust your memories to walmart processing.
John B is correct, No flash so that sort of limits it to clear shallow water doesn't it?
raskage - I'm not American, and when I've tried to take a camera and/or film into the US I've always been told they insist on X-raying it. No option of hand inspection, just a blunt "take it or leave it". I haven't had the same problem with other countries, though I rarely carry film these days, not since I adopted digital.
it's pretty much the whim of the $8/hr. US TSA kiddie. try telling them it's professional film. ask for a supervisor. keep your cool and accept it.
BUMP BTT, My internet service has been down for over a week here so I am just now catching back up on things. I have checked this camera and it uses 800 speed film; therefore, definetly insist on having it visually inspected. Nine Days and counting before we are off!!!
