The Ambergris Caye Safety Committee has been working to begin an intern program to help train young individuals in San Pedro to better be able to join the work force. There are 15 businesses lined up which are willing to place these individuals as apprentices. The Committee is just waiting for written documentation of approval from the labor board. Verbal approval has already been given.

This will be an on the job training course as well as classroom time. The individuals must be at least 16 years old and will need to be pre-qualified. These teenagers can be in school or not.

There will be three sessions in the class curriculum. Session 1 will be an introduction to social security and labor laws as well as customer/guest service. Session 2 will teach communication skills and people skills. Session 3 will teach proper skills for interviewing, resume writing and job feed-back.

Please contact Steve Spiro at El Pescador if you have any recommendations for the 15 individuals needed to make this program a success.
