Police are investigating a burglary in San Pedro. 64-year-old Timothy Joe Younkin reported that he and his wife left their room at a resort on the island and went to the United States on September 2. He said they ensured that their windows and doors were properly secured. On their return this past weekend they discovered that their lock box containing two thousand US dollars and 500 Belize dollars which was inside the guest bedroom was missing. They also found that a number of items were missing including electronic items and assorted jewellery all to a total value of 16 thousand 480 dollars.

Police in San Pedro have charged a man following an early morning incident on the island. 19-year-old Nelson Rhaburn told Police sometime after three o'clock this morning he was helping a friend to his house when he was approached by two male persons, one of whom was armed with a handgun. Rhaburn said one of the men put a gun in his mouth while the other man took away is bag valued at 250 dollars, his wallet containing 250 dollars in cash. The men attempted to take away his tennis shoe and a struggle ensued. Police arrived during the struggle and detained 22-year-old Alfredo Cowo of San Marcos Area, San Pedro. Cowo was charged with possession of unlicenced firearm, ammunition and robbery. Police recovered a point 32 pistol and a magazine loaded with three live rounds with one in the chamber.

DRUG TRAFFICKING TO COURT...

Tonight, 27 year-old Kaylani Gentle, 30 year-old Marcella Vayes, 21 year-old Delia Martinez, 47 year-old Jose Moralez, and 24 year-old Pedro Campos are all at prison tonight after they were taken to court for trafficking in cocaine.

At around 3:30 yesterday evening, San Pedro Police raided Captain Guts Bar looking for illegal drugs and firearms. All 5 defendants were present, when the officers found a red ashtray under the counter of the bar. It contained 20 small parcels of crack cocaine to a total weight of 1.47 grams. They were all arrested and charged with drug trafficking. Gentle was allegedly caught with a pipe and 0.17 grams of powdery cocaine inside a cigarette pack. She was additionally charged with possession of a controlled drug, and possession of pipe.

They were all arraigned today in Magistrate's Court where Martinez, who works at Captain Guts as a bartender, was attempting to plead guilty to the charge. When she realized that she was facing 3 years in prison and a ten-thousand dollar fine, she changed her plea to not guilty. All 5 defendants were then granted bail of $6,000, which none were able to meet. They will remain there until they can make arrangements for bail, and they must return to court in December.


Caught Stealing On San Pedro

Tonight, 21 Edwin Flores and 18 Alvin Gonzalez, both residents of San Pedro, are at prison after they were taken to court for burglarizing a man's home and getting caught in the act.

According to police, both men broke into Wilson Vivas's house on Wednesday, and they stole an assortment of clothes, a pair of tennis shoes, an Xbox gaming system - complete with peripherals and video game discs - to a total of $2,010. Police were alerted to the crime in progress, and they detained Flores, who was allegedly in possession of all the stolen items. Flores was arrested, and all the items were recovered. Investigators got information of a man matching Gonzalez's description, who was seen fleeing the scene of the burglary, so police arrested him also.

Both men were charged with burglary, and Flores was additionally charged with 2 counts of handling stolen goods. They were arraigned today in Magistrate's Court, where they were remanded on the strength of the submissions made by the prosecution. They will be taken back to court on December 10, their next court date.


Cowo to Court

22 year-old Alfredo Cowo, a resident of San Pedro is in jail tonight after he was taken to court for armed robbery.

According to police, on Wednesday, Nelson Rhaburn was walking a friend home when an armed assailant ambushed him and held him at gunpoint. This man shoved the gun into his mouth and demanded that he hand over all his possessions. Fearing for his life, he gave the man his Camel bag, a brown wallet with $250 in cash, to a total value of $630. When the man attempted to flee, Rhaburn grabbed him and they ended up in a struggle. San Pedro Police officers who were alerted to scene, detained the assailant, identified as Cowo, and they retrieved the firearm from his hand, along with all the stolen items. It was discovered that the weapon was a .32 handgun, which was loaded with 3 live rounds. The officers arrested and charged Cowo with robbery, keeping an unlicensed firearm, and keeping unlicensed ammunition.

He was arraigned in Magistrate's Court, where he pleaded not guilty to all offenses, but due to their nature, he couldn't be granted bail. He was remanded until December 5.
