I was offered a trip to Captain Morgan's today, to check the place out, "get a tour", and have lunch. There was no real mention of timeshare type activity, but it sure has that feel. Anyone with experience?

I did the timeshare thing and actually ended up buying. Not sure if that makes me a good reference or not. Anyway, you have to consider the upfront cost, if you want to come back (I have never understood the buy to trade thing - we purchased because we wanted to come back!) the maintenance costs etc. For us, we purchased every other year but I don't know if they still offer that, it was a good deal and we do not regret it at all. It's not for everyone though.
Good points about Captain Morgans, I always find it friendly, it's maintained pretty well, the accommodation is fantastic and it has a casino if you are into that. Bad points, well, minor really - it's not in the town, you'll have to either take a boat, a bike or walk). For me that's about it.

Anyway, remember you are under no obligation to buy. If you like it and it makes sense to you then go for it. We went on a timeshare presentation to Orlando and HATED it.!! Captain Morgans is a nice place and well be on our 10th trip in November.

Thanks for the comments apache. I'm not at all interested in a timeshare and am a bit concerned as the offer that was made never really mentioned the fact that it is a time share. I don't mind going to a presentation, but I'm not happy about getting tricked into attending one.

This is what I normally live by. The "sell" was actually started with my kids, letting them draw for a "free" prize card. This turned into "$125 of credit at the resort" but tomorrow only. At the end it was mentioned they'd "take" us on a tour of the resort. No mention of any sales pitch, but I began to wonder.

Like to Fish. First comes the bait! Free prize card. My wife won $250. Next get the line in the water. We went there and were given a couple of free drinks. Now the nibble. We were given the sales pitch, shown a couple of condo's (One of which I had to step outside to catch my breath because it was just sprayed with about three cans of freshener) Now set the hook. They made it sound like the best investment deal ever. When I said I would think about it they made me feel like an idiot that I would not buy on the spot! They lost this FISH! But I did get a free meal for me and wifie and had a few bucks to lose in their casino.

We did the timeshare sales pitch one year (about 6 years ago) and it started out ok, had a cocktail talked with a few guys, etc... I kept saying we most likely are not interested in buying until we've been here a bit more often. They escalated us up to one of the owners, a british guy, and it quickly became more and more pressure. He rambled numbers and locations and was basically telling us this was the best deal around and we should sign on. I told him for the amount they were talking I would rather look for something to buy or even build... yikes he came unglued and was yelling and telling me I would never come out better than his deal.

After an hour of him, I said we were done and I wanted the $100 they promised us for listening. He then tried to switch me to a free week another year. We stayed tough and did eventually walk out with a $100 bill. Now trying to get a boat taxi back, no one was interested in helping us... we walked to another resort and caught one later. For me, never again, no timeshare sales pitch is worth my time.
