Just 3 and a half short weeks and my friends and I will be there.
For all you frequent visitors--could you let me know your favorite places to eat? Don't hesitate to get descriptive.
Any other ideas regarding things to do--though no doubt we'll all be underwater most of the time--will be appreciated.
Happy travels to all.
LKF....search back about 2 weeks...not sure who it was but they posted a great review on the different places to eat.
I too will be underwater most of the time....I've got 12 dives scheduled in 9 days...Apr 18th>27th....Hol Chan Shark/Ray city snorkel trip has been rated Highly! I'm doing it just to test out my new gear.
Blue Hole is another dive, but it's a deep one from what I hear 130'. Also there is very little in the fish dept. other than a few sharks. The main intrest I have is the fact that at one time it was above water cavern and has stalagtites(sp?)During the Ice Age the water level rose and the roof of it collapsed. You get 8 minutes at that depth to see whats there...they may be the most intense ones of your entire life. Ever been narc'd...just breath alot at that depth...you'll get giddy as a school girl.
The outer Atolls from what I've been reading are some of the best Reef diveing next to Austrailia.
Also, the locals on this board will answer tons of questions...Do what I did...Look back at the past 2-3 months of posts and All will be revealed.
There seems to be no wrong way to see AC...unless you stay in your room....I'll need a week off from work to recover from all the fun I'm planning!!!

I loved Estels due to the location. It became my hangout. Sand floor, the most esoteric collection of music on the island (everything) good service. Greg, the son of Gary the owner of Tropica stops by to play piano and sing when in town (piano on a sand beach floor!). Very cool.
Estel is where you go for advice on where to go in town for things like haircuts...
The food is good, not fantastic but then, few really are. Breakfast on the beach in the morning was the best first day we've had on vacation in a long time.
I ate at the street vendors that cook in front of you three times ($2US a plate..stuff city). Good home made hot sauce (looks like onions) watch out.
Jade Garden is a must. I had curry, extra spicy..very good. Egg rolls were US priced but they were exceptional.
Sweet Basil is very good, Priced like in the US. If you're not staying on that side of the island I recommend a bike ride to Captain Morgans, stop a Basil for lunch to relax on the top deck.
I was not impressed at all with Fidos. It;s commercial not laid back, more expensive beer and food and after the first drink slow service. Locals get immediate service.
Ate breakfast and had coffee ar tropica daily. Good but pricy but it was close.
Sharks bar is surprisingly nice on the inside (pool table).
Bring coffee from the US if you want to make your own. It's more expensive there for some reason, even at the supermarket.
Have fun. I did 8 dives.
I will be in AC starting to dive on Monday the 23rd. Where will you guys be Sunday Night?
Carl
Our favorites:
Papi's Diner...can't say enough about this small, family owned and operated diner. Papi has been a native of AC since 1974. His previous occupation was as a bartender at various AC spots. Papi's wife and another woman cook a great variety of items..all wonderful! Great soups, shrimp ceviche, fish,a wonderful fried chicken breast sandwich, hamburgers, fries, you name it, Papi has it..and if he doesn't, just ask and it will appear! If you eat there for breakfast during school time, his children (they are so beautiful!) are eating along with the other diners before they go off to classes! If you are staying in the area he will deliver to your hotel.
Celi's Deli..
We never ate at Celi's restaurant, but we did stop at the Deli MANY TIMES to get wonderful food to go.We would take many bags of food back to the Seven Seas(where we were staying) and eat some, then heat up the rest in the micro. Favorites: meat pies, mayan burritos(wonderful!),tamales, garnaches" etc. Don't miss this spot on the main drag, "Front Street".
Estel's by the Sea:
Great for breakfast. As others have said, there is nothing better than eating your breakfast and having coffee while wiggling your toes in the sand.
So many others, but those are our tops. Also, don't be afraid to eat from the street vendors..one by the Seven Seas had the best chicken burritos we have ever had! Also, the children of the island (depending on where you stay) may bring around food that their mother's cook while they are in school. It is all great..don't hesitate to try it! Most of the food was very reasonable. Have a wonderful time!
I'll be there Diveing from the 18th>27th...see ya at the Sunday BBQ...maybe we can hook up...look for a 5'9' Blond guy with Green eyes and tatoos...Will be looking for Rick and Cheri too...they will also be down there and really sound like great folks...12 days...and then,,,blue water....ahhhhhhhhhhh....da fishes...de coral...da nice ladies..hopefully...not to mention all the food I can't WAIT to try!!!
Will be at Barefoots show when I find it too..Tats a must I hear!
Axeman: I can't wait to see your trip report when you get back. LOL
Hey ax I will be in AC about 3:00 Sunday afternoon. We also will be at the Lions BBQ. Look for me 6' skinhead with a big mustache.
We also are going to make as many of barefoot's shows as we can. Can't wait to blow some bubbles.
Carl
I really enjoy it at the Barefoot Iguana too. However, it wasn't too busy early in the week. Just rocking on Fri and Sat.
Look at the Ambergris dining guide on this board. I will add a comment to it now and that will bring it back to the top of the list. Have fun!
