Thanks to the persons that responded my first topic.
Now I would like to now some info about Bananas and about the restaurant they are opening. Which resorts are the best ones and which restaurants are the best ones????
The best answer to your BEST ?.
Resorts and Restaurants in catagories are:
PRICEY
MODERATE
BUDGET
Boarders here, all have their favorites in each catagory, which IOHO are BEST on that given day or stay.
BEST answers are in Lan's Guide.
I am sure Banana's new restaurant will be great, since they have mucho competition
on AC.
Not many negative post here on either. We just choose to remember all the wonderful times, and do not dwell on the negative, if there were any. BELIZE IT.
Banana Beach has narrowed the name down to a couple of choices - Still not official.
As for the food-
they will have a fully air conditioned Steak House and Martini Bar featuring USDA prime cuts of beef, Caribbean Seafood, Gourmet Brick Oven Pizza and Brazilian Rotisserie Grill.
mmmmmmmmmmmm
So, is it going to be a Ruth's Chris or a Morton's?
(Just kidding.)
--Lan Sluder
Becky's suggested restaurant names:
Banana Beach Bistro, Big Banana on a beach, Becky's Brews and Bananas and Beckys' Steak and Shake at BB.
How about "Becky's Bound for Banana Beach Bistro" - that has a great ring to it!
How 'bout the Prime Jib and Bar de Tumbo. At the latter, of course, they serve big dry Tinis del Mar.
--Lan Sluder
Good idea Gela. I'll ask Tim about it when I'm there in November, they could have a big picture of me in front of the restaurant holding a thing of bananas in one hand and a Beliken in the other. Hmmmn.
Works for me.

Becky - I think Brandy should be in the picture too - maybe with a Belekin tied around her neck for emergencies.
How about:
Bananas Au Gratin at the South End
or
Casa Bananas Your Way
One more, I can't help it,
Bananas Sluder By the SeaGrill
Ok, I'm done.
Remember Lan when you read this I just paid $17.95 for your new book.!!!
Thanks for the laugh today you guys.

OK-
When Marty emailed me asking info on the restaurant I didn't realize that he was going to post the no name yet portion...
We do have the name narrowed down to a couple choices but since you all are having fun with this lets make a contest. (Names may need to be a little more serious than some that have been posted so far).
Anyway how does dinner for two sound if we use a name entered here on the message board?
And how about a 2 for 1 drink for all those who participate seriously from here forward??
Hey Marty just delete me if this becomes a problem!
Tim
A contest! Fun!
OK - I'm assuming that we are just naming *one* thing -- a restaurant and bar, but *one* name, right?
How about "Banana Fana" or "Banana Fan-A"
(You know, like in "The Name Game")
Hey! I like it!
Kathy -- I'll collect my two dinners in November.
"Banana Peel" "Banana Appeal"
This could get pretty funny!
Banana-Fana that's the one.
So glad we don't have to get serious yet.
Give me a minute......
Okay-Sandy Banana Toes
Captain Banana's
Ok, Ok, BANANA CABANA
[This message has been edited by deb1022 (edited 09-16-2002).]
ohhhhhhh.... I DO like "Banana Cabana"
At home from Banana Beach:
Hey some good ones coming out! I will keep track for the 2for1's...
We are trying for something different than anything with banana in it...
There have been a lot of names bantered around the Monkey theme too. Monkey Bar and Grill- Sea Monkey- Brass Monkey- Monkey Tree-Barrel of Monkeys-Three Monkeys- Monkey Business- None of these have caught though.
P.S. naming restaurant and bar is an option too. One name or a combination name... This hasn't been ruled out.
[This message has been edited by Timothy (edited 09-16-2002).]
Seriously.....Banana is the most recognizable word for you, so USE it, in the name.
I agree with Banana Beach Bistro from Becky or how bout Banana Beach Brassiere if you want to be really classy and French sounding
How 'bout Tim's Folly?
(Another joke.)
--Lan Sluder
Becky's SERIOUS entries:
Mar De Tumbo Martini Bar (for the bar)
and Belizean Breezes (for the restaurant).
"The Monkey's" bar

"Bananas Sea House" Combination
My two cents worth:
"Plantain Bar and Grill"
"Monkeyshine's"
"Mumbo's on Tumbo"
Howler's Limbo Bar (or Howler's Limb Bar)
Bistro Amarillo(spanish for yellow)
[This message has been edited by Gela (edited 09-18-2002).]

Monkey Brew at Banana's Bar
Moon the Monkey
Bag the Banana Beach Bar
THE CRUSTY MONKEY
Monkey Business
My not so serious ones:
Dismembered Monkey Bar

When there is food involved I even surprise myself. Anyway, The Crusty Monkey should be open in November when we come down right?
7 1/2 weeks to go.
" Seafront Banana's Dining "
" No Monkeying Around "
" The Fancy Monkey "
" Banana's -R- Us "
" The Banana Rum Room "
" Monkey's and Howlers"
Our picks are;
Chiquita's Beach Lounge
Plantain's Fine Dining
A big Hi to Tim, hope you like these, if not put us down for the drinks. See ya in Nov.
Ric & Kathy from Salt Lake City
How about....
Tim's Stray Dog Cantina
Hey - you already have the T shirt!
(Only kidding!!!)
Seriously...how about
Howler's Monkey Bar
My vote is for Chiquita Bonita.
'Course, Chiquita Brands and its lawyers might object a tad.
--Lan Sluder
Definitely "Chiquita Bonita"!!
Ok then how about:
PIBIL -(Mayan word, refers to the underground cooking pit, where meats were wrapped in banana leaves )
plátano cafe
BANANA LEAF
Or, If your looking for names off the beaten track, these are interesting and beautiful. B
1. Cavendish (type of banana most widely grown)
2. Roho (Type of banana with an intriguing red color)
3. Manzanos (type of banana (little baby bananas)
4. Bakisimba (traditional African dance of the court of Buganda, the central tribe of Uganda. It celebrates the creation of banana wine for the King)
5. Ahari (Garifuna for Spirit)
Ok I am now salivating for a banana and must run to the store!
how about YELLOW MONKEY and BLUE MARTINI LOUNGE. see you in FEB.
How about...
The Coconut Cafe and the Palm Tree Lounge
The Shark Ray Cafe
or for something else catchy..
The Funky Monkey bar and grill

Chuen Cafe (or Chuen Bar & Grill, etc.)
Chuen (choo en) – Mayan word for Monkey

Hanuman- Monkey God
good luck!
Glad board is up and running again. Thanks for all your time and effort Marty.
One more:
Moncaye Bar
In Jamaica I saw a bar called Boonoonoonoos. So, how about Baanaanaanaas? (Sorry, it just popped in my head!)
Man i'm glad we didn't lose this thread!!!!!
Just wanted to see if my avatar pic turned out.
Have a great week-end! :p
Is there an opening date for Banana's Bar and Restaurant yet?
How about a variation of Andreas "Funky Monkey"?
The Fun Caye Monkey
or
Is simply "Bananas" out of the question?
or
Psychedelic Bananas (tie-dye everywhere)
Whatever the name turns out to be the waitstaff should be referred to as: Bananamasters and Bananamaids
I'll be there in May - can't wait!
Steak house, huh? "Ambergrizzle"
Platanos
Caye Food
Banana's Bistro
Angus Beach
Coral Beef
... jus' my two cents.
I second that question..........is there an opening date? We will be in town from the 5th to the 15th on November. Too early???
How about Sex A-Peel??? Never mind...it says 'bananas' but that's likely to draw the nudist crowd and then you'd have to buy those little peel-and-pitch barstool covers. Who needs more overhead expense?
Tim,
perhaps
Montana Cattle and Produce
Steakhouse
Chris (famed namer of casa picasso)
Tim,
Why not use the successful "KISS" (Keep It Simple Stupid) system .
Since you seem to want to keep away from the Bananas word, I suggest simply:
TJ's (I like this one)
or
TJ's Surf & Turf
Of course they would be in large letters; maybe TJ's placed inside a circle in lights, etc.
Easily recognizable and easy to remember.
Jim
For the Martini Bar:
Tumbo Tini Bar
Mar Tooni Alley
What about Montanas' Bar & Grill or just simply Montana's.
My suggestion:
Monkey's Uncle
How about Mofongo - or Plantain Plantation or Purely Plantain - Or why not open without a name and let all newcomers submit a request - Tim is getting very good publicity - We will all be anxious to try the new restaurant. Or maybe Jackie should have the opportunity to name it?
I have to HAND it to everyone. A great BUNCH of names.....let me PEEL a couple off.
El-Plantana
Day-o
Bantini's
Starboard
ok ok
Banana-rama
"The Fat Steak" and "Martini Bar".........C
How about "Cukoo's Nest"? Isn't that where people who go "Bananas" would go?
If you named the restaurant "The Cukoo's Nest" you could name the bar "The Rubber Room"
Boy... that would open up the door to a bunch of great "specialty drink" names:
Tranquilizer
Labotomy
The Strait Jacket
et. al.
Hey Tim at BB: Any bites on all of these names submitted?
and when do you expect to open?
Banana Beef & Smashed Bananas
And when do I get my prize?
For Moncaye Bar
or
The Crusty Monkey Bar
I'll take a stab, put my 2for1 cents in
Moon Howler's (my best adaptation of Howl at the Moon)
Monkey Wrench
Prime-Eats (almost like primates if you try really hard)
I better stop
Can't wait til Nov 24!
How about "Copa Banana"
Seriously, I thought "Chaquita Bonita" sounds great.
I'll be staying at Banana Beach Nov 3 through 15. Here's hoping the new restaraunt opens by then. Looking at the snow falling outside my window
as I type this makes me think "Ten more days, ten more days".
Any update on the name contest, restaurant opening day and such? If someone is there when it is opened, be sure to post some photos! Where is it going to be exactly anyways, beachside or on the road side?
Andrea in Atlanta
another "banana" name wud suck
How about:
Mr. T's Bisto
B & B Bistro
Tim's T-Bone
I like the Banana Beach Bistro that was already suggested too.
See you November 23!
Linda
How about:
Mr. T's Bisto
B & B Bistro
Tim's T-Bone
I like the Banana Beach Bistro that was already suggested too.
See you November 23!

In case you didn't know it, the new bar and restaurant at Banana's is supposed to be non smoking. They will have a couple of tables or so outside on a tiny deck facing the parking lot for smokers. Don't think this will fly here.
Whatever happened to that fun, laid back island called Ambergris Caye. I'm a non-smoker, but I disagree with unnecessary rules and regulations. This is surely one of those instances. Next, there will be politically correct phrases, and smoking police all over the place.
Seriously, this rule has put many good bars and restaurants out of business in Toronto and elsewhere. It's unnecessary and it's a double edged sword. It can backfire on you and in all probability, will!
Live and let live. It works much better.
The no smoking choice seems to work much better for hotel rooms. Of course, it is just that, a choice since both are offered by most hotels.
Just a suggestion but I would go with the status quo. When you're paying the big bucks to go out for dinner, many customers will want to be comfortable after dinner, and will want to light up. Will they come back if they are shuffled out to a deck or the parking lot to have a smoke?
I wonder if the new restaurant has central air, and if this has anything to do with the no-smoking decision.
Even so, it seems like a very risky rule to impose for a new business in AC. The customer is the one to please.... not so?
I definitely dont want to get into any non-smoker / smoker thing here. Personally I am for the non-smoking unless they have two separate rooms where the smoke can be totally separated from those who wish to eat and not have it drifting onto their food. I don't mind smoke in bars at all (except for the real crowded ones where I or my clothes have been burned several times my folks who angle their ciggies away from themselves but so passers by can be burned by them!) but even in some restaurants non-smoking areas, if the smoking section is not separated by a wall or a short distance you can get smoke drifting in your face. I have contact lens and my eyes are real sensitive to smoke in small places and some of my friends have respiritory issues too. And besides that, there is nothing worse than smoke flowing your face when you are trying to eat! I prefer my food unpolluted. I have a several smoker friends, some regular smokers and some recreational (i.e. after a drink or two) and they also dont want it in their faces when they are putting food in their mouths. So If its a one room indoor restaurant, non smoking totally makes sense as there is no way to separate smoke from non-smokers in that situation. If it is outdoors, then there could definitely be a smoking area there if there is at least a little bit of distance between the non-smoking tables. Or if its only indoors, as a lot of restaurants in the US do, put the smoking tables in the bar area where smoking is going to occur anyway. Since most times, even as a group with smokers we all ask for non-smoking tables, I dont think it will be a big issue. I have friends in the restaurant business who say 80% or more ask for non-smoking anyways and folks can always take a break and smoke in the bar or outside which is what most of my snmoker friends like to do and they have no problem with that since they no more want to eat smoke than the non-smokers in our group do.
Anyway, off that topic, when is the restaurant opening? Hopefully Tim will add a page to his Banana Beach webpage and post some photos and menus. I looked at a lot of menus online last year, as well as taking folks recommendations, and that helped us decide where to eat a lot of the time.
Has Tim picked a name yet?????? A lot of us submitted our ideas I know, and from his notes he wanted something non-banana-ish. A lot of good ideas came out though! Less than 7 months to go now for my little group. We had 11 of us last year, hopefully more this coming year but it was a fantastic time and we can't wait to go back. The view from my balcony is the wallpaper on my laptop and my co-workers keep asking where it is! The week of May 3rd is highlighted on my calendar as that is when we head back!
Andrea in Atlanta (well LA right now for work.,.. )
I will be there next week and it looks like restaurant not quite ready to open yet - they say maybe mid December. Fine with me, I love the place anyway!
Here's my 2 cents:
-La Isla Bonita or La Bistro Bonita
-The Spanish Lullabye(inspired by Madonna's song about San Pedro)
-Tropical or Island Breezes
-Fly Away
Good Luck!!!
La Jungla?
The Monkey House?
Carne? Tangos? Hombres? Sabados?
how about the all time favorite: "EATS"
has anyone said McBananas yet? hahahahaha
ALoha Tim,
Howzit? Every now and then I plug into the A.C. message board to see wassup. So low and behold you've got a bar/res going on at Banana beach. Super, hope you get a top chef. I find it interesting no one has come up with something to honor your right hand woman who recently passed away, your friend my friend.
I think you should name the restaurant in honor of Jackie and call it "Bananas Devine". After all she was a big part of Bananas success and a big part of your life as well as mine.
As for the lounge, well what is the most popular drink in Belize, beside Beliken? I would call the lounge "Cubalibra", thats right Caribbean dark, coke and lime, can't get any simpler than that.
Won't be down for holidays, the maya prince is coming to Hawaii. Enjoy your holidays.
aloha

Thanks Luis, for letting all of us be apart of naming. El Divino is beautiful. She is smiling.
What is your e-mail address Luis so we can all send you our addresses? Will they be adding a page to the BB webpage with information on the restaurant and bar, hopefully a menu to get us salivating before we arrive!!!
