Do you really think that Obama/Pelosi in 08 will not bring it back at the first chance they get?

I guess if you can post a performance bond guaranteeing it will never be re introduced...lets say $1000 bar credit at BC's ?.... then I will be able to sleep better at night smile

Tell me where I got this wrong? You never seem able to, but instead just chant the mantra.

If its Employee Free Choice, why is choice being taken away?

This is the actual vote count

THIS IS THE 3RD PARAGRAPH OF YOUR FIRST POST.
The new Card Check proposal that Obama/Pelosi in 08 so fully support in essence states that if 50% +1 sign a petition, or by verbal affirmation agree to Union Representation, then its a Union closed shop for that business. Not a secret ballot, where one can offer support to whichever side of an issue you like, but out in the workplace, or more frighteningly at your home a verbal yes or no!

THERE IS NO PROPOSAL.

This is "more of the same" of the BS you clowns spin to try to scare The American people. There is no proposed legislation.

Your whole thread is a lie.

reaper, I come from several generations of FF. In Boston the FF union is blocking random drug and alcohol testing following the deaths of two fire fighters at a fire who where later found to have high limits of drugs and alcohol in their systems. There have been several other instances, but the union says no, no drug/alcohol testing. Every day for months in has been in the Boston papers.

I've never been able to figure out why all FF except the Chief are in the union. My father was a District Chief and he even informed me that it made it very problematic to discipline or report problems with the men under him.

Having said that I have the most respect for Fire Fighters and this is about unions not them.

Just 4 of many sites offering opinions for and against card check: It is a very real policy of Obama/Pelosi and will be reintroduced in the first session of congress if they are elected

The more upset you get the more you seem to loose touch with reality?

Here's a small excerpt from one site:

“When we started working on this legislation five years ago,” Acuff said at Take Back America, “people in Washington said it would never be taken seriously, never pass the laugh test.” Bills were introduced in 2003, 2005, and 2007. The first two times, they never reached the floor, with Republicans arguing that labor organizers usually win unionization elections anyway and that 90 percent of those results are approved by the federal government’s National Labor Relations Board within two months. In 2007, with the Democrats in charge of the legislature, the same bill passed the House easily and won 51 votes in the Senate, but that wasn’t enough to proceed to an up-or-down vote. All along, the effort has faced a veto threat from President Bush.

Things are different now. Democrats believe that as many as nine Republican-held Senate seats are vulnerable in 2008. The AFL-CIO, Change to Win, and allied unions plan to spend $360 million on the 2008 election. That’s around $200 million more than the unions spent in the Kerry-Bush race. As Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton slug it out for the nomination, the AFL-CIO is running a $53 million campaign attacking John McCain—portraying him as a right-wing ideologue who co-sponsored the Secret Ballot Protection Act, the GOP’s attempt at making kryptonite against card check.

This is a sumary of the Secret Ballot Protection Act refereed to Above:
5/7/2007--Introduced.
Secret Ballot Protection Act of 2007 - Amends the National Labor Relations Act to make it an unfair labor practice for: (1) an employer to recognize or bargain collectively with a labor organization that has not been selected by a majority of the employees in a secret ballot election conducted by the National Labor Relations Board; and (2) a labor organization to cause or attempt to cause an employer to recognize or bargain collectively with a representative that has not been selected in such manner.

It doesn't seem very scary or radical to be able to cast a ballot in secret?

Fear mongering? With Democrats in control of the executive and legislative branches, this WILL come back in some form -- count on it. Even if this is an unreasonable expectation (certainly not) to call this nuanced interpretation of political positioning "fear mongering" is laughable.

It's "fear mongering" to play loose with the term "fear mongering."

This in NOT to say I dislike unions -- I don't. They have a very real role to play. However, to allow unions to run roughshod over industry in the U.S. is economic stupidity. They cannot be given a blank check. Today's system allows for an incredible amount of protection for unions that methodically ensure the will of their proposed membership.

It's like saying the IRS can go into any business and do what they choose --- oh, wait smile

I belonged to a union for two years, as a condition of employment. I became unpopular at the first meeting I attended when I asked, after doing the math, what happened to all of our dues (taking into account the $25 bucks they reported for flowers to some guys widow)? I knew the building wasn't costing them 2K a month.

In a subsequent job, the union organizers tried to come in. they promised us everything under the sun, factually promised. The world would be great, everything wonderful and happy (and this was long before Obama). The company countered with.....absolutely nothing. This is because once the negotiations were started, they could not legally say ANYTHING. Talk about a stacked deck. The pro-union employees (a couple of them, anyway) were not above thinly veiled threats. Fortunately, the secret ballot took care of them, and the rest of us went about our lives, working the job we did at the pay and benefits we originally agreed to.
