Mystic River Resort offers a relaxed brand of Central American ecotourism. In Belize, ecological awareness is becoming increasingly important, and at Mystic River, it is very important to us. We take pride in the fact that we generate our own electricity without sacrificing the small luxuries life has to offer. We also collect and purify our own water, which is safe to drink anywhere on the property. As part of a reforestation program, we have endeavored to replant many indigenous trees cut down during the logging years in Belize. Hotels may have fancy lobbies and high-rise views, but at Mystic River, we’re returning to nature – in comfort and style!
While visiting with us, try your hand at exploring some fascinating Mayan ruins and caves, tube or canoe down the river, zip line over a canopy of jungle forest, or relax on your own private patio overlooking the river and do nothing at all. It’s also a great place to sit and watch the amazing variety of birds Belize has to offer. From Parrots to Toucans, from Aracaris to Mot-Mots, have fun spotting all the birds with the help of our very knowledgeable staff. The cabana was wonderful, the veranda overlooking the river was our favorite place to drink the coffee that magically appeared at our door each morning. The fireplace in our cabana and the big fireplace in your beautiful dining room were wonderful surprises for a jungle hideaway.

“My wife and I have made 6 trips to Belize over the years, but this was the first trip to the mainland. We decided to stay at the brand new Mystic River Resort which is located in San Ignacio.
Accommodations were in a spacious, immaculate cabana with a splendid view of the McCal River and surrounding jungle. The cabana had a fireplace which was beneficial during the cool nights.
Food was very tasty and fairly priced. The menu was varied enough so that dinning was quite interesting. We found the delivery of tea or coffee to our cabana first thing in the morning to be real classy.
The hosts, Nadege and Tom, made us feel genuinely welcome, taking some of their meals with us and keeping us up to scratch on what the region has to offer and the many activities available. They really wanted us to have a good experience while staying with them.
The staff was extremely amicable and went out of their way to make us feel at home, helping in any way they could. In fact, one went and dug some worms so I could go fishing.
There was a large number of different birds on the immediate property. While taking an hour long canoe trip through some easy rapids we must have seen over 20 different species. The McCal River contains a large number of fish with the Snook being the largest. There are also several Mayan ruins within easy driving of the Resort. We didn’t get there on this trip, but they will be there for us next year.
Mystic River Resort is definitely a destination you'll wish to visit. When you leave you will most assuredly have acquired new friends.”

"Our trip to Belize was wonderful. Our stay at Mystic River was exceptional. The tranquility of the resort and the attention to detail from you and the staff was incredible and better than anywhere else we have stayed around the world - including 5-Star establishments. We especially enjoyed our 'little red riding hood" baskets in the morning with coffee and again in the evening with cold beers. We even saw toucans and iguanas in the forest! Our stay was too short but will be remembered for a very long time. Many thanks for a fabulous experience!"

"Turned up to check Mystic River out after receiving a flyer from the Car Hire company. On arrival received a very warm welcome from Nadege. Initially decided to stay a couple of nights but fell in love with the place and stayed 8! Accommodation is fantastic: very spacious and luxurious (ours had 4-poster king size bed) with an open fire for cool evenings. We had a fabulous veranda overlooking the Macal River about a hundred feet below, where we sat every morning enjoying tea which had just been delivered to our door.
Leisurely breakfasts were enjoyed viewing the river and numerous birds from the very impressive open sided restaurant, which also sits high above the river.
Mystic River is ideally situated to allow easy access to all attractions in the San Ignacio area if you have a 4x4 and are adventurous enough. If not there are many organized tours available.
After our days out exploring we returned for cold drinks in the Palapa Bar followed by fabulous food and good company in the restaurant. A blazing fire in the large fireplace giving an extra homey feeling.
We highly recommend Mystic River; Nadege, Tom and all the staff looked after us magnificently and we were very sad to leave."

"We almost don't want to give this testimonial because if word gets out about this oasis in the jungle, then we will need to make reservations months in advance. I don't plan that far ahead. In fact, we stumbled into Mystic River because we didn't have a plan. After staying one night in the city of San Ignacio we knew that we had to get out of the city. So we went for a drive, we soon became thirsty and decided to turn into the next place we saw, which lucky for us was Mystic River. The bartender squeezed fresh orange juice for us and we were welcomed with smiles by all the staff. The view and serenity was exactly the Belizean experience we were looking for, and the reason we left the city which is plagued by a cacophony of barking dogs. During our short stay we canoed in the river, the staff even prepared a cooler for our travels. Our meals were superb and followed by great company around the dining areas inviting fireplace. Our private cabana was first class, and I slept so well I did not mind when the vast bird population sang their morning songs. I am looking forward to our next visit to Belize and to Mystic River, were the mountain breeze blows."
