Website of the Day

Oceana, founded in 2001, is the largest international organization focused solely on ocean conservation. Our offices in North America, Central America, South America and Europe work together on a limited number of strategic, directed campaigns to achieve measurable outcomes that will help return our oceans to former levels of abundance. We believe in the importance of science in identifying problems and solutions. Our scientists work closely with our teams of economists, lawyers and advocates to achieve tangible results for the oceans.

High school students from Southside Belize City tour Belize Barrier Reef

A split level showing the braver students interacting with sharks and rays at Ray-Shark Alley off Caye Caulker

High school students from Southside Belize City took a grand tour of the Belize Barrier Reef on March 21st, 2013. OCEANA Belize, as a part of the Reef Week festivities, sent about 40 high schoolers to Caye Caulker and the Marine Reserve, where the group got the opportunity to snorkel and interact with nurse sharks and stingrays. Students on today’s outing came from Excelsior High School, Gwen Lizarraga High School and Maud Williams High School.
