Miss Nils and her husband in his uniform; he was from Honduras
Miss Nils was married when she was 18, but he was maybe one year younger than her. Caye Caulker.
She was interviewed for Roots of the Sea. Here are some comments from that interview:
Miss Nils – I believe she was 81 years old. Her skin was weathered and she wore cute designer glasses with some old Airwalk shoes and her hair tucked into her hat. She couldn't hear very well, so her interview was one of the better ones, since she somewhat referred to what she wanted to, rather than the interview questions. She was loud, and full of life, and she shared her most dearest memories with us – the ones of her being the best dancer on the island, or being married to a Honduran soldier, and the way that the island used to be compared to the present day. She switched between Belizean Creole and English, which made the interview very raw and different from the others. She gave us hugs at the end, and thanked us for coming to listen to her stories, when really we were the ones who were incredibly thankful for being able to listen to them.
