David climbs while Bruce helps with the looper pole, collecting epiphytes, Sarstoon-Temash National Park.
By now David has either climbed, crawled or pulled himself to the subject; the dexterity and strength to do so requires not only a young body, but also an experienced head to avoid the many dangers of placing skin on vegetation in the tropics. Swarming biting ants can be dangerous; an unseen and disturbed wasp or hornet nest deadly; thorns, spines and prickles painful; and snakes always a concern. Marvin will hand the numbered roll of tape up and David holds it near the plant so that more photos can be taken. Each collected plant has a unique number. Bruce has been visiting and inventorying the plants of Belize for over 20 years.
