Burns Avenue, San Ignacio, Cayo, long ago
See Mike Salazar's gas station, Esso, way to the end, left of centre in the pic. First building was Mr Martin Galvez’s Bulls Eye Candy Shop. Kalim Habet’s building is the yellow one then Esso gas station and then Michel Chebat’s house. The bar downstairs second house on the right was the Astoria, you can still barely see the name painted on the side wall to this day. The first little house on the right was Cano's Jewelry Shop. Top photos mid-1970's
Many of the Scottish decendants to B.H. back in time, of which the Burn family was one of them lived in San Ignacio. When I saw that there was a Burns Avenue, I thought it was named after them. Mr. George Cadle Price's grandmother was a Burn. Very nice!
I remember that house on left... Went there many a times on Sunday's when a child to play with my cousins (Espat's).
Michel Espat did own that house, I Remember Susan Espat, went to school with her and her brothers and sisters. Kalim owned the other shop on the left. Now that the Chinese have it, u have to buy through chicken fence.
Another club was the Astrodome that Alex Habet used to run just at the corner lot up from Blue Angels.
LOOKING AT BURNS AVENUE IN SAN IGNACIO THE OTHER WAY AROUND, from West to East, LOOKING FROM THE ANGLICAN CHURCH TOWARDS what has always been known as DOWN TOWN. ( The main commercial Center, or from Mora Town, to the Center of Town, in the 1940's to 50's ).
On this site of Town was the BIG Chicle bodega, where BTL is now Located.
The Anglican Church is where it is.
The first FRUIT and VEGETABLE SHOP was on the right hand, owned by Mr Carrillo, ( Known as Don HUESITO.)
Notice in those days, only horses with Cow Boys rode on the streets ( I included delivering eggs and cheese from the farm, to the merchants. ) Some of the Older folks had their GUNS slinging on their waist. ( WILD WEST. - NO THIEF ALLOWED IN TOWN. ) ( Good old days, a lot of respect for one another.
