| Hundreds of people flocked to Central Park for
clothing distribution
|
Hurricane Keith has
set back many events, individuals and businesses of this community. This year's
San Pedro Lions Club's annual community service event, in commemoration of World
Lions Service Day, was not possible. Although this individual day was not
observed, the club has been very busy assisting those recently affected by the
hurricane. The Lion Spirit has reflected brightly in
President Flora Ancona and her members, who have worked tirelessly assisting
NEMO in the distribution of food and other goods. The club recently finished the
food distribution after a week of many long hours of packing and distributing.
Although many encouraged the Lions to take time for themselves on the weekend,
they once again shocked the community with their admirable actions of
SERVICE. Last Sunday, the club held a barbecue at Central
Park where they distributed a massive amount of clothing. Donations came from
various persons and organizations from Belize and abroad and the club happily
accepted the task of proper distribution. Hundreds of people flocked to Central
Park where President Ancona, assisted by members of the club and the community,
put their organizational skills to the test and passed with flying colors.
Sorting and clothing selection took much longer than the time it took the
bundles to disappear. Another mission accomplished. In
addition, Lions also distributed cold fruit juice and snacks to the children
accompanying their parents. The San Pedro Lions Club proves that even in hard
times working hand-in-hand can alleviate a lot of unneeded stress and suffering.
Way to go San Pedro Lions Club!
