Last month the San Pedro Sun reported good news for residents of the San Pedrito Area who had lost their homes to Hurricane Keith. Well-known entertainer and resident of San Pedro, Jerry Jeff Walker and his fan club brought hope to many of the victims through a special fundraising drive to aid people of the island.

The San Pedro Lions Club was entrusted with the $25,000 raised. Mr. Armando Graniel of Graniel's Cabinet Shop is spearheading this project along with a committee from the San Pedro Lions Club who carefully determined those who needed help the most. After studying several individual cases, the Club has selected five families.

Mr. Armando Graniel confirmed that the total cost per home will be approximately $5,000 and will measure twelve feet by sixteen feet, completed with a flat roof. Mr. Graniel, who is donating the labor, has started to pre-fabricate the homes with hopes of erecting the first home this Sunday, with the assistance of Lions Club members and members of the community.

These five homes will definitely make a big difference for the families who had little or no resources to get back on their feet. On behalf of those receiving homes, we salute the San Pedro Lions Club for taking the reins on this project and Mr. Armando Graniel for his valuable skills and contribution. A special thank you to Susan Walker, Jerry Jeff Walker and his fan club for caring and making a difference in the lives of these people.
