News of another medical
school in the community was released this week by the shareholders of St. Luke's
University School of Medicine. As reported, on March 13th, 2002, the Ministry of Education
authorized the formation and operation of this brand new educational
institution. St. Luke's University will establish itself
on the island of Ambergris Caye with the opening of its school May 1 st, 2002. The St. Luke's University School
of Medicine stated it will be staffed with a cadre of educators and qualified
administration who "ensure its prospective students the highest quality in
medical education." Founded by a group of medical practitioners and educators,
as well as legal, business and accounting consultants, their main objective is
to offer a superior, yet affordable, medical education similar to North American
universities. Students interested in
additional information and/or registration with the School of Medicine may
contact the Academic Dean, Dr. Shrinivas Murthy, at 026-2912.
At press time, school representatives would not release
further details regarding staff and curriculum.
