Stephen “Papi” Manuel is new Lions President

Soon to be Lions President 2006-2007, Stephen “Papi” Manuel.

A dedicated and ready to work member of the San Pedro Lions Club, Mr. Stephen “Papi” Manuel has recently accepted the responsibility of serving as President of this organization for the upcoming fiscal year 2006-2007.

    Lion Manuel joined the Lionistic Family in 1984, since then he has served in the Attendance Committee, as a Tail Twister and as a Lion Tamer. In the recent years, he has been more active than ever on the club and plans to keep doing the same. He has lived up to the Lion motto “We Serve” and has displayed much fervor, working tirelessly amongst fellow members.

    In an interview with The Sun, Lion Manuel stated that he first became affiliated with the Lions when they first helped him. “I was sick in the year 1980 and was in the hospital for three weeks. The late Lion Chato Nuñez along with other Lion members did a fundraiser to help me while I was at the hospital. I knew from then on that I wanted to be a part of such a wonderful organization.”

    Lion Stephen Manuel will officially assume his new after the official inauguration on June 24th. Upon taking office, Lion Manuel says that his top priorities will include to build up the membership of the club as well as the attendance. “If we don’t have members we can’t help and if we don’t have active members we can’t help either,” Lion Manuel commented. “We have seen a steady decline in active Lion members through the years and this is something that I plan to take head-on.” Among other things, Lion Manuel plans to instate is the Leos Club, “We need to give our youth something to do and the Leos Club is a fantastic committee to bring back.”

    The San Pedro Sun joins the community and the members of the San Pedro Lions Club in congratulating Lion Stephen Manuel in his newly chosen endeavor and wishes him all the best for a successful year.
