Tico Requeña and Miguel Neal from Caye Caulker were the winners in the second leg of the tour.

Ten teams participated in last Sunday’s two by two Caye Caulker Volleyball Competition which was sponsored by Tackle Box, Belikin Beer and the Caye Caulker Volleyball Association. It was a smashing hit for spectators and players alike as they played under perfect weather at the beachfront in front of Ambergris Divers. The results are in and they come courtesy of tournaments organizer Juan Marin Jr.

Despite the tournaments late start, the competition saw teams ranging from Belize City, Caye Caulker and San Pedro. San Pedro’s teams comprised of Capo and Ivan, Kit and Tyler, Enrique Marin Jr. and Ian Pou, Enrique Marin Sr. and Trevor Del Valle, and Amir Marin and Enriqe Pinelo.

The San Pedro Sun recaps and begins the report with games from the semi finals; teams competing were Ernest Broaster and Raul Arnold from Belize City and the only mixed team Tyler and Kit who hail from San Pedro. Ernest Broaster and Raul Arnold advanced to the finals winning the game 25 – 22, placing Tyler and Kit in 3rd place. The finals were an intense match up amongst Belize’s best: Tico Requeña and Miguel Neal from team Caye Caulker and Ernest Broaster and Raul Arnold from Belize City. The final game was played in a best of three sets with the first two sets going as far as 21 and the third if necessary to fifteen to take the crown. Set one was a close match but this set was in favor of the Caye Caulker duo Tico and Miguel who posted the set win in 21-19. In set two, the tables turned and the Belize City boys came out with massive power to take set two with a score of 24-22. The final set was action packed and closely contested but ultimately, the Caye Caulker duo had what it took to post the big “W” and take the day’s crown with a score of 15-13. Thus, the Caye Caulker team walked away with bragging rights and the victory for tournament two which comprises of nine stops. At the awards ceremonies, Kit and Tyler collected $50 for third place, Ernest and Raul took home $150 for second place whilst Tico and Miguel collected $300 for first place.

The next game is schedule to be held at Old Belize Adventure in Belize City on May 25th. The next tournament for San Pedro has been slated for June 8th at Playa Lounge. (All Games are schedule to start at 9:00 a.m.)

On behalf of the CCVA, special thanks go out to all players/teams that competed in the tournament and it is hoped that other San Pedro teams participate in the tour not only in their stops but all stops of the tour. Again, the third leg of the tour will take place in Old Belize on May 25th, 2008 and will return to San Pedro on June 8th which will take place in front of the Playa Lounge. It is fair to note that tournament one was one by Belize City. Fans are always encouraged to partake in the tour by supporting the tournament and making beach volleyball grow in Belize.
