Lions Club installs new Board of Directors







The San Pedro Lions Club held a special general meeting on July 10th, 1999 to install a new Board of Directors. Lion President Ruben Gonzalez called the meeting to order and welcomed members and friends. A short invocation was given by Lion Abel Guerrero Sr. after which a minute of silence was observed in respect to the late Alfredito Alamilla. Lion Angel Nuñez then read the Lions Code of Ethics, followed by the reading of the minutes by the secretary.

Club Treasurer, Lion Abel Guerrero then gave his annual financial report. The total gross income was $99,100.09 out of which $36,203.77 was donated to assist people with medical needs, to LCIF, local victims of tragedy and victims of our neighboring Central America. As of Saturday, the club had in its check book, fixed deposit and cash on hand $16,729.33. Please note that this does not include the $100,000 deposit for the new hospital. This is in a separate fixed deposit.

Following the report they moved to the most important part of the evening - the installation of the new Board of Directors. Lion Edilberto "Beto" Marin, Past District Governor did the honor of conducting the ceremony. He commended the group for their dedication to the club and congratulated them for leading the club into the new millennium.

The new Board of Directors consists of: Immediate Past President - Ruben Gonzalez; President - Severo Guerrero; 1st Vice President - Flora Ancona; 2nd Vice President - Alex Eiley; 3rd Vice President - Jose "Joe" Alamilla; Secretary - Felix Ayuso Jr.; Treasurer - Abel Guerrero Sr.; Tail Twister - Nita Marin; Lion Tamer - Javier Graniel; Directors (2 years) - Natalia Muñoz and Raul Cabral; Directors (1 year) - Manuel Ancona and Alberto Nuñez; Membership & Attendance President - Baldemar Graniel.

After warm congratulations among the new board members, the floor was open for discussions pertaining to other matters. Lion Beto Marin gave a brief report on the new hospital project. He mentioned the sudden interest from the Government of Belize and St. Matthews University in this project. He also made an appeal to the members to help in a special fundraiser that is being held to assist Lion Andrew Chavez from the Stann Creek Lions Club. Lion Chavez has been an active member of the Stann Creek Lions Club and a pioneer in keeping alive the Leo's Club. The outgoing Lion Tamer, Martin Graniel entertained the gathering with various jokes. The new Lion Tamer, Nita Marin then tried her skills in this area, and made everyone laugh as well. After the formal ceremony, snacks were served and the members came together to celebrate the new installation of the Board of Directors.
