ScubaLdy,
what kind of gear? I'm not 100% sure, but I normally travel with a Nik5 and Ikelite SS150. Sometimes I'll use a
Nikonos III instead, or I'll shoot with two strobes. My guess would be that I used a 28mm UW-Nikkor on this shot, but I also shoot with the hugely underrated 20mm UW-Nikkor. 90% of the time, I'm on Velvia 50.
After saying that, asking a shooter about gear is fun, but it's a little like asking a chef about knives. Yeah, it's an important subject, but it's what goes on behind the camera that matters. You can buy gear, but you can't buy an eye. You just have to shoot. That's where your eye develops. And, and the old press photographers said "f11 and be there". You have to be in the presense of your subject. You have to be there, to go there, and realize when "there" is "here". I've gotten great macro shots in my back yard, and I've walked right past great subjects. That's how it goes, sometimes.
