Harpy Eagle

The Harpy Eagle is the world largest bird of prey.80" wing span, massive bill and talons.
This massive avian terrors place in the world is classed 'globally threatened.
A bird W.C. Fields would have liked because small dogs and children are on the menu when available. Its normal diet consists of monkey, Kinkajou, Quadamundi and Peccary.
Sad the worlds shifting biodiversity will soon withdraw its support for one of its most fantastic Avian creatures.
It made me a little nervous standing in the jungle in front of it. A troop of spider monkeys about 50 feet away where screaming like I never heard monkeys scream before, the troop had two babies and I'm sure feared having their children taken away and eaten.

Elbert not to be smart A*s. but I thought the Andean Condor ( Vuture gryphus) was the worlds largest bird of prey. Or has this gone extinct?

Ahaa, They (the condor) doesn't kill so that makes it not a bird of Prey. But this is a contradiction in some of the information that does say the condor is the larges bird of 'prey'. I copied this,..."For me the most awe-inspiring of all is the Jaguar of the Air, the world's most powerful eagle, the Harpy. This giant bird lives by tearing monkeys and sloths out of the trees, using claws the size of a human hand, on legs as thick as a human wrist. It weighs up to twenty pounds, with broad powerful wings that allow it to lift still-living adult howler monkeys through the air. What a horrific ride that must be. No wonder small monkeys fling themselves out of the trees and fall to the ground cowering when this nightmare flies near. It is perhaps the only bird that would ever think about killing a human child."
but thanks I appreciate any and all corrections.

This made me realize something i over looked. The monkeys where probably having a dilemma if they go to the ground when they see the Harpy, I was on the ground under their tree and that may have been much of what the screaming was about.

580 and growing.
This guy had a GPS locator bracelet on and was released in Belize to breed but is in Peten currently. Peten might have tastier monkeys or more attractive female Harpys. His hunting range can be up to 100 miles.
