More Birds

Here's some more shots from yesterday. I saw the female Black-headed Trogan but didn't have the camera ready. Both of these stay fairly well hidden in branchy trees.

Trogans are everywhere suddenly and a lot of other birds I don't normally see, I wonder if its the clearing of the mangroves in the back. I was back there again this morning and the lagoon is drying up on the north side of the east west road dramatically but it also seems like someone is installing more culverts.

We are spotting more different types of birds too, but it seems to me that this happens every year. I don't keep track of which birds we see when but there are times when the mangroves are packed full of 2 types of birds, for a day or 2, then they leave. Have seen quite a few parrots in the past month.

The parrots are Opportunistic feeding, they travel in pursuit of what is ripe at the time. Our almond trees having ripe fruit attract them they eat them and move on to the next fruiting species that are ripe. The also eat the figs.
The island has a fig that isn't apparent to those of us that aren't flying around looking at tree tops.
Figs are the magic fruit of the planet IMHO.

Amanda - I did record everything I saw a couple of years ago when I stayed up here for awhile. Then I recorded 5 kinds of Orioles. Now I am seeing only two.
Earlier in the year I had 5 woodpeckers here everyday - now I have only one.
It is so entertaining to spot then, get pictures and be able to find them in my Birds of Belize book.
Bird lovers are always welcome at Birdland.

my feeders don't have any perches and it has been fun to watch the orioles learn how to overcome that.
