Can anyone tell me the name of this plant? Robert started it from a cutting and can't remember where he got it. This is the first flower it produced. The bush is only about two feet high and about as big around. Lovely little thing.
The leaves definitely look like hibiscus. The flower is really close, too. Perhaps same family? The center is the only thing that kind of stumps me. I'm doing some research. The size of flower and bush is probably a young plant?
Break the leaf and smell it. Does it smell like garlic. My neighbor has the Hibiscus looking plant but the blooms are much smaller. She calls it garlic flower, but for sure thats not the real name.

Definitely think it is hibiscus. Do you have a picture of a bud? That will help in identification, as well. The red hibiscus flower (also jamaican sorrel)is dried and used in teas and has great herbal benefits.
Wizard - you are one! I googled Mallow and found a lot of varieties of these. At first I too thought this was a Hibiscus when it opened. I do have a shot of the bud but could not find a way to post it here so posted it under a new thread.
I learn so much here - this message board is priceless - thanks Marty.
