Mr. Alberto Nuñez

Mayor Daniel Guerrero, the San Pedro Town Council and Staff would like to extend its sincere condolences to the Nuez family and friends on the passing of Mr. Alberto "Don Beto" Nuez.

Mr. Alberto Nuez, or as affectionately known as "Don Beto" served as Mayor of San Pedro Town from 1997-2003. Before his time as Mayor he ventured into working in various types of trades: in construction, as a fisherman, owned his truck service; he was a "Jack of all trades." His contribution to the island of Ambergris Caye were of passion and perseverance, as he had immense love for his island.

We bid farewell to a true pioneer of San Pedro Town. May his soul rest in peace.

Alberto Nunez Laid To Rest After Island's First State Funeral

A state funeral is a public funeral ceremony, observing the strict rules of protocol, held to honor people of national significance. This honor was bestowed to Don Alberto "Beto" Nuez, who was the fifth Mayor of San Pedro Town and who served for two terms. Don Beto, as he was popularly called, died on December 8, 2017, at the age of 83.

Members of the San Pedro Police force provided the Guard of Honor and Pall Bearers were members of the San Pedro PUP Marshals. The Belize flag covered and decorated the coffin and a PUP flag led the procession from the Seventh Day Adventist Church to St. Peter's Cemetery.

A very warm and solemn service was held at the Adventist Church with singing by Jackie Halliday, Dora Gonzalez, and Ezequiel Gomez. Prayers and sermon were delivered by Pastor Ernesto Barahona. Mayor Daniel Guerrero of San Pedro offered condolences and reflections on the contributions to Don Beto and a grandson Andres "Andy" Nunez delivered a heartwarming eulogy.
