Here's the word in regards to the first Cultural Fest to be
held in Benque in October 14, 15,16 this year. It's a corollary to the
Centennial Celebrations held last year in Benque Viejo. Friday night will
feature the election of Ms. Cultura, local talent and a folkloric ballet and
marimba from Guatemala. On Saturday the Japanese community in Belize will
be feature in the afternoon with other karate groups. At 7:00 p.m. we go
international with groups from Guatemala and El Salvador's Flor del Cafe and
the marimba orchestra from San Francisco Peten. Sunday morning will feature
a triatlon and other sporting events, then the crowning of Ms. Cultura and
parade. There will local food and crafts. It's an alcohol free event
(though we had a hard time in convincing people that beer is not really
needed to have a nice time) and the proceeds will be destined to continue
the Centennial Park Project - a 2-acre municipal property which House of
Culture and the Community of Artists have been entrusted with and have
turned into a park/green area.

Spread the word and see you there!
