SAN PEDRO WEATHER DISCUSSION by Winston Panton (with
excerpts from the Tropical Prediction Center)

TODAY’S FORECAST

Fair and dry weather conditions will continue over
Belize and the Northwest Caribbean.

Ambergris Caye, San Pedro and Caye Caulker will
experience for the next 24 hrs:

Mostly sunny skies today and fair tonight. Temperature
will reach high 80 degrees F after midday. Surface
winds will blow 5 to 15 Kts from the East to
Southeast. The sea state will be light shop to choppy
with 4 to 6 foot seas beyond the reef.

The outlook is for continuing fair and sunny skies
through Saturday.

Western Caribbean & Yucatan:

PERSISTENT NE/E TRADES WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE
WEEKEND WITH WINDS VEERING TO SE 20 KT OVER THE NW
CARIBBEAN ON MONDAY IN RESPONSE TO LOW PRES DEVELOPING
OVER TEXAS.

MAXIMUM WINDS TO 30 KT ARE OCCURRING OFF THE COLOMBIA
COAST.

THERE IS LITTLE CHANGE IN THE PATTERN TO ALTER THE
EXPECTED WINDS/SEAS IN THIS AREA THROUGH MONDAY.


Central Caribbean:

A DEEP LAYERED TROUGH EXTENDS OVER THE N CARIBBEAN
FROM THE W ATLC N OF 15N BETWEEN 66W-81W WITH THE
BROAD UPPER RIDGE OVER THE TROPICAL ATLC COVERING THE
REMAINDER OF THE AREA. THIS IS CAUSING THE CARIBBEAN A
MOSTLY SW UPPER FLOW.

STRONG SUBSIDENCE AND DRY UPPER AIR CONTINUES TO HAVE
A FIRM HOLD OF THE AREA.

THE REMAINDER OF THE CARIBBEAN IS UNDER GENERALLY
CLEAR SKIES WITH MODERATE/STRONG EASTERLY TRADE WINDS.
LITTLE CHANGE IS EXPECTED FOR MOST OF THE AREA.

SEAS WILL GENERALLY RUN 4-6 FT THROUGH THE FORECAST
PERIOD EXCEPT FOR A 7-8 FT NWLY SWELL TRAIN WHICH WILL
MOVE INTO THE N PART OF THE AREA LATE FRI INTO SAT.



Eastern Caribbean:

MODERATE TRADES ARE STILL IN PLACE OVER THE SRN
CARIBBEAN AND AREAS OF THE TROPICAL ATLC S OF
BARBADOS.

NELY SWELLS CONTINUE TO SUBSIDE E OF THE WINDWARD
ISLANDS...WITH MAXIMUM SEAS OF 8 FT S OF 12N.

IN THE SE TROPICAL MOISTURE IS BEING ADVECTED FROM
OVER SOUTH AMERICA. THIS IS GENERATING SCATTERED
SHOWERS S OF 13N BETWEEN TRINIDAD/TOBAGO AND THE ABC
ISLANDS.

THINNING AFRICAN DUST CONTINUES TO MOVE OVER THE E
CARIBBEAN GIVING THE
LESSER ANTILLES SLIGHT HAZY CONDITIONS.

THE AFRICAN DUST WILL CONTINUE TO SPREAD WESTWARD.
