February in San Pedro is fast becoming known as the place to be for skydiving. Thanks to Tsunami Skydivers and organizer Richard Grimm, over one hundred sky divers have returned for the second annual Boogie in Belize. Skydivers from around the world seek a place to jump in the winter months, and San Pedro is fast meeting that need according to Grimm.
"We like to jump in exotic places," said Grimm. "It is so fantastic to be over the island here at 13,000 feet. It is one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen in my life, with the aqua blue water and the island, it's just fantastic," he exclaimed.

Holding the event in the same location has made the event run even smoother. One addition is a fuel truck stationed in San Pedro so the plane can refuel here instead of flying to Belize City. Grimm said the number of participants this is a about 120, up from around 100 last year. "When you add it all up, these skydivers are contributing several hundred thousand dollars to the local economy," adds Grimm. The skydivers have also contributed to local organizations (see related story).

The divers are once again using an area just north of the San Pedro River as their landing area. Dozens of eager observers have been watching the sky divers descend back to earth. Many of the sky divers took the time to visit with the spectators to share their experiences.

The rally does not only offer experienced sky divers the chance to get a jump in, but those who are not certified can join a professional skydiver in a "tandum" jump (see related story). Dozens of local residents and visitors have taken this opportunity to experience the feeling of freefall from 13,000 feet.

The rally ends February 20th. If you have the nerve to try the sport, stop by the Sun Breeze Hotel to arrange your jump.
