TORONTO - The lawyer for the family of a Canadian couple slain at a Mexican resort is lashing out at the investigation.
Edward Greenspan says it's ludicrous that the prosecutor in Mexico has essentially given up on finding out who killed Nancy and Domenic Ianiero.
Greenspan maintains all evidence points to a hotel security guard who befriended the couple from Woodbridge, Ont., but disappeared the day of their murder in February.
Last week, the Mexican attorney general responsible for the case laid the blame for the delays in the investigation at the feet of Canadian investigators.
Canadian police officials say they're co-operating fully.
The Ianieros, who were in Mexico to attend the wedding of their daughter Lily, were found with their throats slashed in a blood-soaked hotel room at a resort near Cancun.
In October, Attorney General Rodriguez y Carrillo said Blas Delgado Fajardo, a hotel security guard and former paratrooper, was ruled out as a suspect because a hair found in Nancy Ianeiro's hand did not match his DNA sample.
Greenspan has long insisted that Mexican police files indicate Fajardo, also a former bodyguard for the governor of Quintana Roo, is the only valid suspect.
Fajardo failed to show up for work at the Barcelo Maya Beach Resort hotel the day the bodies of the Ianieros were discovered, and has not been seen or heard from since.
Cheryl Everall and Kimberly Kim of Thunder Bay, Ont., who were on vacation at the resort at the time of the killings, have been named as suspects by Rodriguez y Carrillo, as has Lily Ianiero's ex-husband.
Greenspan has called those accusations "slanderous" and "false."
