Families affected by flooding as a result of the passage of Tropical Depression #16, have received vital home supplies.
Starting yesterday Monday, the Government, through the National Emergency Management Organization, and its Cayo Disaster Emergency Committee, launched the replacement of household items in the Cayo District.
Items that were distributed yesterday to 25 families in Calla Creek and 9 families in Bullet Tree Falls Villages in the Cayo District included:
� Butane Stoves
� Gas Tanks
� Sofa Sets,
� Refrigerators and Mattresses
In addition, houses that were affected by flood waters are also being repaired. This humanitarian effort is aimed at replacing main household items lost by the affected families, with items being furnished by local suppliers from throughout the country.
Before delivery is made, Village Chairpersons are contacted and informed of what household items are being taken to the village and the recipient families.
Upon arrival, the items, based on a Damage Assessment Report, are handed over to the affected families by name. In addition to their signature, a representative from NEMO's Relief Supplies Management Committee is also on hand to countersign the documents.
Based on other Damage Assessment Reports, this humanitarian aid by the Government of Belize will be extended to the Belize, Orange Walk and Corozal Districts that were also affected by flooding.
