On Saturday downtown Belize City will be filled with activities as the first ever Street Art Festival will be held. Karen Vernon is Theatre Director at the Bliss Center for the Performing Arts.

“It’s going to be very exciting. We have live entertainment from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Albert Street will be blocked off from the Belize Bank right down to the Bank of Nova Scotia and that whole area will take on a festive atmosphere. We will have tents with booths and artist displaying their art work. We have live art happening so people will be there painting, doing sculptures, basket weaving so people will be able to see the artistic side of all this from the start right up to an end product. We have Embassies taking part displaying stuff from various countries. Entertainment is going to be exciting we have dance groups like the Belize Dance Company, Reformation Dancers, Ugundani Dancers, New Generation; we have two live bands on both stages because there will be a stage at central park and there will be a stage in front of the Bank of Nova Scotia. Apart from that we have the steel pans, we have storytelling, we have youth voices a wide line of entertainment. There will also be a kids zone in front of the Bank of Nova Scotia where this will just be an area for the kids. We will have Ozzie the Clown, live mascots, air brush tattoos for the kids, the bouncy castle, all that stuff. Albert Street will take on a festive atmosphere on Saturday.”

Local artists will have their pieces on display which will be on sale. The event kicks off from 2 to 10 pm.
