Sergeant Fitzroy Yearwood - Police Press Officer

"Upon arrival on the scene we observed what appeared to be a hand grenade on the side of the street. We contacted the BDF. The residents of that area were immediately evacuated from their homes. We cordoned off the area and first Lieutenant Harris arrived from the BDF who assured us that the pin was still intact for the grenade and it posed no serious threat. We waited for the expert in the person Colonel David Jones who arrived on the scene of course Mr. Jones was nowhere near Belize City at the time, but fortunately for us technology helped us, modern transportation he arrived there; he removed the grenade. We still did not allow the residents to go back to their homes. We secured that area when Colonel Jones arrived and removed the grenade from the scene then the residents of that area were allowed to go back into their homes. No one came up to the police and said so and so threw it or we saw so and so throw it. Based on information we have so far we are looking for persons of interest."
